We are looking for a new colleague to join our Warranty Test Department in Washington, MI!

 

Position Summary: The Warranty Diagnostic Engineer will support analysis of customer returned Electric Power Steering (EPS) systems.  This position will require technical analysis skills in order to identify failure mode of returned systems.  The candidate will be required to interact with Hardware, Software, Manufacturing, Quality, and other teams to ensure expedient analysis results to meet customer deadlines.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Follow standard methodical analysis procedures to perform detailed investigations for customer returned Electric Power Steering (EPS) systems.
  • Identify root cause sub-system, component, or software issue within EPS systems.
  • Works efficiently to analyze claims quickly to meet customer reporting deadlines.
  • Adapt to testing requests based on customer demands as directed by the Lab Supervisor.
  • Document the results of electrical investigations by writing clear and concise reports.
  • Ensures ESD protocols are followed.
  • Helps coordinate calibration of lab equipment.
  • Assists in the acquisition and installation of lab equipment.
  • Supports facility during external and internal audits.
  • Participates in internal reviews and external reviews as needed.
  • Maintains records as per ZF Retention Policy.

 

Essential Skills and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent combination of degree and relevant experience.
  • Advanced Electronics – SMT, Microelectronics experience/knowledge.
  • Technical knowledge to be able to comprehend specifications and drawing.
  • The ability to lift and maneuver steering gears weighing approximately 50 pounds regularly. 
  • Analytical thinking.
  • Experience writing formal reports.
  • Ability to learn and use internal and customer portal systems.
  • Highly organized with excellent attention to detail.
  • Excellent English speaking, reading, and writing skills.

 

Preferred Skills and Experience:

  • Test engineering experience in a diagnostic role.
  • Experience with CANape and/or CANalyzer software.
  • Familiar with IATF 16949 requirements or equivalent.
  • Knowledge of DFMEA and PFMEA.
  • Knowledge of cybernetics protection; mechanical systems; and programming.
  • Microsoft Power BI experience.
  • Test box design and fabrication experience.
