We are looking for a new colleague to join our Application Engineering Department in Washington, MI!
General Responsibilities & Duties:
- Lead, direct and develop a team of designer of steering wheel and driver air bags using innovative technology in accordance with ZF Global Development Process (GDPEP)
- Recruitment and succession planning of employees
- Perform yearly reviews to team members.
- Assign all engineering release documentation including prototype and production design and drawings to designers.
- Manage workload balance and priorities to ensure project coverage including filling in for designers as needed
- Guiding and mentoring the team of designers on process, methods, CAD tools and design guidelines
- Assist in the establishment and monitoring of Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and implementing other metrics where applicable, measure the performance.
- Support the engineers in project planning as per overall project milestones.
- Resource estimation, allocation, and training to support customer & internal projects.
- Assist the department managers to derive global strategy to support program teams and deliver CAD designs on time for lowest cost.
- Support business quotation teams to evaluate customer requirements & estimating the head counts required to execute the projects.
- Prepare documentation and presentation material to effectively communicate technical subject matter to audiences at working level and at senior management level.
- Assist in department budget management, headcount planning, employee training and development, interviewing and hiring, and employee appraisals
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience desired
- 8+ years of automotive product design experience that may include safety systems, assembled products, interior automotive design, 3D modeling, sheet metal design, plastic molding, diecasting, fasteners design, wiring and assemblies.
- CATIA V5 and/or UGNX CAD system with design and packaging experience
- Ford and/or Other OEM Teamcenter experience
- GD&T knowledge
- Strong speaking and writing communication skills in English
- Ability to interface well with technical staff and functional department personnel
- Ability to work independently
- Good customer relations skills
