Overall Purpose of Job

This should be a broad overview of this position’s function. Include the overall scope of the position and the authority this position possesses in terms of programs/ projects/ operations and establishing policy.

 

  1. The Mgr, Program Mgmt is responsible for overall specific product line program management including Gate Review, MSR, OPSP, key open issue follow up, HC planning, and other specific tasks management assigned.
  2. Translated to ZF standards, further detail follows. The position is responsible:
  3. Make sure all projects following GDPEP process.
  4. For supporting / managing acquisition activities during GDPEP 1 and 2 phases on a case-by-case basis as agreed with program management director and/or sales management lead. 
  5. Managing the customer interface from GDPEP Phases 3-8. 
  6. For interfacing with all areas affected by the project, ensuring successful integration of all project work products.
  7. Overall product line management during new project phase, key issue escalation.
  8. The position is responsible to balance the competing demands of scope, time, and cost (also known as the “triple constraint”)

 

Major Responsibilities

  • As mentioned in the overall purpose above, the Mgr, Program Mgmt is responsible for managing all aspects of product line projects over the entire life of the project as shown by the following Project Phases:  Initiating, Planning, Executing, Monitoring & Controlling, and Closing

 

Initiating Process

  • The Mgr, Program Mgmt is responsible to manage the Initiating Phase, the key deliverables being the receipt and approval of the Handover Package and the development and management of the Preliminary Scope Statement.  These documents formally sanction the project and documents project characteristics, respectively

 

Planning Process

  • The Mgr, Program Mgmt is responsible to manage the Planning Phase, the key deliverable being an approved Project Management Plan which integrates all subsidiary plans to create one coherent document
  • The Mgr, Program Mgmt will integrate and manage all of the following work products into the Project Management Plan, ensuring that lessons learned are incorporated:

 

Scope Management:

  • Scope Planning
  • Scope Definition
  • Creation of WBS

Time Management:

  • Activity Definition
  • Activity Sequencing
  • Activity Resource Estimating
  • Activy Duration Estimating
  • Schedule Development

Cost Management:

  • Cost Estimating (both project and product)
  • Cost Budgeting (both project and project)

Quality Management:

  • Quality Planning

HR Management:

  • Human Resource Planning

Communications Management:

  • Communications Planning

Risk Management:

  • Risk Management Planning
  • Risk Identification
  • Risk Analysis
  • Risk Response Planning

Procurement Management:

  • Plan Purchases and Acquisitions
  • Plan Contracting

 

Executing Process

  • The Mgr, Program Mgmt is responsible to manage the Executing Phase, the key deliverable being work results
  •  A focus on integration management continues to be an important element for the successful project manager, who is responsible to direct and manage project execution.  The following areas are of particular focus during the Executing Phase:

 

Quality Management:

  • Perform Quality Assurance

Human Resources Management:

  • Acquire the Project Team
  • Develop the Project Team

Communications Management:

  • Distribute Information

Procurement Management:

  • Request Vendor Responses
  • Select Vendors

 

Monitoring & Controlling Process

  • The Mgr, Program Mgmt is responsible to manage the Monitoring & Controlling Phase, the key deliverable being accepted deliverables
  •  A focus on integration management continues to be an important element for the successful project manager, who is responsible to monitor and control project’s work and ensure integrated change control and project change management.  The following areas are of particular focus during the Monitoring & Controlling Phase:

 

Scope Management:

  • Scope Verification
  • Scope Control

Time Management:

  • Schedule Control

Cost Management (both project and project):

  • Cost Control 

Quality Management:

  • Quality Control

Human Resources Management:

  • Manage the Project Team

Communications Management:

  • Performance Reporting
  • Management of Stakeholders

Risk Management:

  • Risk Monitoring & Controlling

Procurement Management:

  • Contract Administration

 

Closing Process

  •  The Mgr, Program Mgmt is responsible to manage the Closing Phase, the key deliverable being a successfully delivered product
  • The Mgr, Program Mgmt is responsible to close any contracts and formally close the project, and ensure that lessons learned and best practices are appropriately stored and/or disseminated
