Position Summary: The Resident Engineer is the on-site technical liaison at a truck OEM for hardware and software functional integration activities with regards to ZF technology. Position is responsible for coordinating the hardware and software integration, calibration, and releases at the OEM according to internal and external requirements. Supporting general ePowertrain system integration and validation for ZF products at the OEM.
Position Responsibilities:

Represent ZF throughout software and hardware integration programs on-site at the customer and provide guidance and/or expertise for all technical and business-related issues.

Serve as a technical liaison to the customer for hardware and software functional changes and change management processes. Provide clarification and technical explanation of ZF product specifications, calibration solutions, and component functions.

Lead software and hardware program deliveries by tracking action items, program timing, and software/calibration releases (including but not limited to, the creation and execution of system-level development and validation test plans, development of functional test procedures and scripting, and performance of verification testing)

Clearly and professionally communicate plans and results (reports, customer presentations, development test plans and reports, software and hardware checklists, etc.), verbally and in writing, to manager, coworkers (international & local), industry partners, and customers.

Support (on-site as necessary) in any hardware and control-system issues arising during customer testing stages related to ZF product (including, but is not limited to, providing technical support for customer prototype and vehicle builds, software and vehicle tests, dynamometer and component tests, and systems integration projects).

Perform root cause analysis and error correction of problems related to mechanic parts, electronics, sensors and wiring; support root cause investigations and special testing. Include both internal ZF studies, and external OEM interface studies.

Support all EOL software and calibration parameter programming initiatives at the OEM assembly plant.

Participate in department continuous-improvement activities to test and develop hardware, calibrations and control systems, improve calibrations and software solutions and data analysis techniques, and to develop new test procedures.

Maintain, design, develop, and document tools to support product development process.
Essential Skills and Experience:
- B.S. in Engineering (Mechanical/Electrical, Mechatronics, or related field)
- 5+ years of engineering experience in a product development and/or manufacturing environment (includes co-op and/or internship experience).
- Experience in software control systems
- Experience with automotive communication links
- Experience with Engine / Transmission service tools
- Proficient with data acquisition & development tools
- In-depth understanding of electromechanical systems
- Ability to interface with customers, cross-functional teams, and all levels of personnel/management.
- Commercial Driver’s License required; may obtain immediately after hiring. Good driving record.
- Ability/willingness to travel (up to 25%).
- Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship now or in the future.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Color vision is desired.

Be able to pass DOT physicals and drug test required to obtain and retain CDL (Commercial Driver’s License)

Assume approx. 25% travel to customer & ZF sites. Could include training in Germany, several times a year.

Work Environment: While performing the duties of the job, the associate is exposed to an office atmosphere with some manufacturing/lab exposure.
