TITLE: Senior Application Engineer

FUNCTION/BUSINESS UNIT/ENTERPRISE: Product Engineering

REPORTING TO: Product Engineering Team Leader

 SCOPE AND IMPACT OF POSITION ON THE ORGANIZATION:

Drive all necessary actions to assure that ZF devices and systems are selected and configured according to customer requirements and applied appropriately in customer vehicles.

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Requirements elicitation and specification mapping
• Collect technical customer requirements, specifications and associated documents.
• Compare customer requirements and specifications with ZF specifications, identify mapping specifications and deviations.
• Provide proposal for ZF product matching customer requirements, resolve deviations in consultation with product group engineer and customer, accomplish acceptance of deviations.
• Create change request for non-acceptable deviations including breakdown of customer requirements.
• Product layout and configuration
• Select / design / calculate product layout for customer application.
• Consolidate / prepare product documentation (Drawings, schematics, plumbing/wiring diagrams, DMU’s, specifications, bill of material etc.)
• Configure product according to customer needs (e.g., parameter setting)
• Application validation and release
• Check component installation and system environment in the vehicle.
• Startup system in the vehicle, run through initialization procedure.
• Check system functions in the vehicle.
• Adapt parameter setting where required.
• Homologate or support customer to homologate according to national and international regulations as appropriate.
• Carry out tests on special customer demand (e.g., system performance demonstration)
• Provide test report.
• Train and instruct customer on product features, end-of-line process and requirements etc.
• Get technical approval of application from the customer.
• Provide technical release of application.

EXPERIENCE:

Minimum 8 to 12 years of experience in Product Engineering in the automotive industry, preferably in vehicle function development or vehicle testing

PROFILE:

• Degree in EEE / ECE / Mechatronic / Automobile Engineering
• Good knowledge about vehicles, sub-systems and operating environment
• Good experience in vehicle homologation / testing
• Good knowledge in diagnostics (K line & UDS on CAN), CAN protocol, instrumentation and data acquisition systems
• Capable of test driving (CV driver’s license, qualified test driver)
• Fluent in English
• Ability to work with Digital Mockups - Interface checking and fouling checking.

OUTPUT:

• Specified standard application and homologation procedures.
• Customer application release (e.g., for new customer or new product at existing customer)
• Homologation test report
• Customer training on product features, application, end-of-line handling etc.
• Response to technical questions of customers
• Support of other ZF functions (e.g., Key Account Teams) for technical explanations and demonstrations to customers
• Feedback of technical customer requirements into product development organization

METRICS:

• Application checklist completed.
• Customer sign-off received.
• Homologation test passed.
• Customer able to equip his vehicles with ZF product in his production line.
