ZF North America Inc. has job openings (multiple) for the position of Sr Test & Validation Engineer – Virtual Validation and Simulation (Power Electronics) based out of its location in Northville, MI.

 

Job Duties: Develop and execute virtual validation plans for power electronic components and systems. Create and maintain simulation models including MATLAB/Simulink, PLECS, and/or PSIM for system-level and component-level analysis. Perform model-in-the-loop (MIL), software-in-the-loop (SIL), and hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) testing. Collaborate with design, software, and hardware teams to define test requirements and ensure test coverage. Analyze simulation results, identify issues, and provide feedback to design teams. Support the development of automated test scripts and test benches for continuous integration and validation. Support the Technical Project Lead, System Test Manager, and other Engineers in technical discussions with the customer linked to testing and validation.  Support the product testing in regards to System Design, System Function, and System Architecture related topics and question as well as the definition of test cases to proof that the product meets the requirements. Work with development teams and customers during beta testing, pre-production testing, and final product implementation. Perform feasibility studies in cooperation with other engineers of the project team for new requirements or change requests. Participate in continuous improvement programs and provide support to team efforts. Participate in audits and ensure compliance with the company Quality Management. Document test procedures, results, and validation reports in compliance with automotive standards including ISO 26262 and/or ASPICE. Participate in design reviews, FMEA, and DFMEA activities to ensure robust product development. System requirements (ZF QMS) which includes IATF 16949, Automotive Spice and Customer Specific Requirements (CSR). A hybrid (in-office and telecommute) work schedule is available. Up to 10% domestic and international travel to visit customer sites and troubleshoot issues.

 

Requirements: Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, or closely related field, plus 5 years of experience in testing or simulation of power electronics in the automotive or related industry, and demonstrated experience with: Testing electronic and mechatronic systems on a high voltage dynamometer test bench or high voltage Power Hardware in the loop test bench; Thermal and electromagnetic simulations including the creation of simulation models following the analytical dynamic system modeling approach; DVP&R of Electronic Components; Test procedures and test case definition for product validation of Power Electronic components; V Model including the development process basics; MATLAB and Simulink including, creation and maintenance of analytical tools for calculation analysis; MATLAB toolboxes including, Control System Toolbox, Optimization Toolbox, Signal Processing Toolbox; Simulink Libraries, including Simscape and Simscape electrical; IATF 16949; Hardware in the Loop (HIL), including test planning, test case definition, test procedure definition, execution of test at HIL test station, documentation of HIL test result, and creation of Test report; Model in the Loop (MIL) including test planning, test case definition, test procedure definition, execution of test at MIL test station, documentation of MIL test result, and creation of Test report; and Statistical analysis of test data using descriptive and inferential methods.
