Senior Supplier Development Engineer - Corporate SM North America

Position Summary: The Supplier Development Engineer is responsible for performing supplier related activities surrounding supplier approval, supplier assessment, APQP, and quality launches for new or modified products in order to support and fulfill the requirements of internal and external customers, all while ensuring local adherence to global quality objectives and corporate standards. They will also be responsible for the tracking of actions and intense follow-up with suppliers and ZF internal departments (such as Developing, Engineering, Purchasing, Quality and Logistics) as necessary. In addition, they will act as a consultant to achieve the best results for ZF and its customers.

 

Position Responsibilities:

  • Overall project management for supplier approval process measures to achieve maturity level of purchased parts, while ensuring the project will be completed on time.
  • Approval process coordinator for North America.
  • Conduct VDA audits at supplier plants, follow up with action items, and develop suppliers.
  • Knowledge in the Forging, Fasteners, and Machining commodity and experience in the process development APQP and PPAP for those parts
  • Manage supplier development activities by leading supplier audits, analyzing supplier performance, and creating improvement plans.
  • Monitor the supplier-rating system and provide input on appropriate corrective actions as needed.
  • Work with purchasing to select and develop suppliers through regular assessment, planning meetings, APQP tools, and plant visits.
  • Technical lead of cross-functional teams.
  • Execution of project management by creating master project plans and KPI based project tracking.
  • Evaluation of risk analysis.
  • Leadership of task forces and working within task force teams.
  • Technology workshops to screen technology and manufacturing practices at the suppliers.
  • Realization of commodity/process specific Continuous Quality Improvements (CQI) actions.
  • Provide trainings on SDE and Supplier management related topics.

 

Essential Skills and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or technical field (e.g. Materials, Mechanical, Industrial, Production technology) with technical background
  • 6+ years of professional experience in Quality, Production, Logistics, or Cost/Process Planning
  • Experience in the Forging, Fasteners, and Machining commodity and experience in the process development APQP and PPAP for those parts
  • Negotiation skills
  • Strong organizational, task management, and prioritization skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • VDA 6.3 Process Lead Auditor experience and knowledge of APQP, FMEA, Six Sigma, tools for process capability analysis and problem-solving techniques
  • Strong Run@Rate experience
  • Experience in CQI-9
  • Experience preparing and delivering information in presentation form to high level management like CEO’s and Plant Managers (ZF internal, suppliers and customers

*Willingness to travel both foreign and domestic with high flexibility on short term notice

 

Preferred Skills and Experience:

  • Master’s degree
  • Certification as Six Sigma Green belt/Black belt, or comparable improvement methodology
  • Experience with Lean Manufacturing methods and implementations
  • Proficient in other languages (particularly Spanish or German)
