Senior Commodity Buyer

Position Summary: The Senior Commodity Buyer is responsible for serving as the sourcing expert for all purchasing and sourcing activities related to a defined commodity. This position can serve as the purchasing lead for a commodity either regionally or globally. Additional responsibility could be assigned to be commodity lead for particular reporting units or business units.   

 

Position Responsibilities:

  • Lead negotiations and develop contracts to signature for assigned suppliers. Prepare and support Commodity Management for contract and sourcing negotiations for globally managed suppliers.
  • Develop global management strategies for assigned Part Families that are aligned with the internal stakeholders and customers.
  • Manage purchasing price for a Part Family and/or a defined set of suppliers
  • Manage Sourcing Cases by reviewing sources, handling RFQs, leveraging bundling of business for cost-saving methods and opportunities, and achieve the target cost established by the internal customers. 
  • Develop efficient calculation methods and maintain pricing tables, ensuring pricing information is accurate in applicable ERP systems 
  • Analyze assigned market to prepare and recommend suppliers to be added or removed from the approved supplier list, as well as nominate suppliers for the Strategic Supplier List.
  • Lead Global Competitive Sourcing benchmark activities and leverage in negotiation and resourcing activities to accomplish Part Family cost level targets set by the internal customers.
  • Perform market research and monitor changes/trends for purposes of benchmarking and cost controlling.
  • Manage assigned supply base in regards to quality and delivery adhering to ZF’s escalation model.
  • Track costs and statuses of negotiations while maintaining agreements with suppliers.
  • Explore methods/materials for total cost management and cost structure analysis.
  • Monitor relevant commodity indices and apply for surcharge calculations.

 

Essential Skills and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Engineering, Supply Chain Management, Economics, or related field
  • 6-8+ years of advanced experience in a professional purchasing capacity (i.e. technical/commodity purchasing, purchasing project management, purchasing management, etc.)
  • Experience with supplier analysis and evaluation (i.e. quality, capacity, cost, etc.)
  • Experience with supplier bidding process and complex negotiations
  • Experience with APQP and/or project management tools and methods
  • Deep knowledge of purchasing tools, negotiation methods, and business communications
  • Deep knowledge of assigned commodity and related commodity market
  • Deep Knowledge of cost improvement/containment topics and techniques
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office (e.g. Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Project etc.), in particular MS Excel
  • Superior technical abilities in business composition and mathematics
  • Experience with SAP
  • Ability/willingness to travel both domestically and internationally

 

Preferred Skills and Experience:

  • Master’s Degree in Business, Engineering, Supply Chain Management, Economics, or related field
  • C.P.P. (Certified Purchasing Professional) Certification
  • 6 years of experience with high-level/complex business and/or purchasing negotiations
  • Working knowledge in blueprint reading, statistics, PPAP documentation, product costing, and specifications
  • Experience in the automotive industry
  • German and/or Spanish language skills
