Project Engineer (TPL) - Electric Drivetrain

The Technical Project Leader (TPL) is an experienced level professional responsible for providing technical direction during the process of designing, maturing and implementing advanced innovative systems for automotive conventional and electrified powertrain applications. In addition, the Technical Project Leader is responsible for customer product development initiatives and ensuring the seamless and timely integration of high quality ZF products into customer projects by applying ZF standards.

 

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for technical leadership role over project development team throughout the lifecycle of an assigned project; starting with quotation of project costs.
  • Responsible for overseeing technical content, creating schedules and adhering milestone deadlines of the assigned development projects in alignment with global Program Management.
  • Representing the development progress of an assigned project vis-à-vis to the internal expert departments, system teams and the customer.
  • Main point of contact for the customer, which includes conducting regular customer development status meetings and technical reviews.
  • Monitor and manage project development budget.
  • Leading and collaborating with the team of project development engineers across multiple ZF locations worldwide.
  • Serve as the liaison between the R&D basic development team (worldwide), the core technology team (worldwide) and the direct customer team (North America).
  • Executing change management processes for released product designs.
  • Ensuring system development, validation, and delivery to customer according to internal and external guidelines and processes (e.g. ISO26262, IATF 16949, DOORS, etc.).
  • Reviewing and understanding of customer requirements, managing documentation and incorporating these requirements into the ZF product design, to ensure customer and internal product requirements are linked together.
  • Confirming that the product design meets all of the customer’s requirements by overseeing successful completion of internal testing and validation processes.
  • Contributing to the development of Mechanical, Electrical, Hardware and Software internal specifications.
  • Coordinating parts procurement for prototype builds during development phase.
  • Leading internal teams in order to resolve technical issues associated with customer products.
  • Ensuring that an approved detailed drawing package and technical document reports are provided for final product design. 
  • Defining the development strategy in order to achieve project objectives. 
  • Tracking and reporting regularitly the project progress by checking and updating development schedules and conducting internal development status meetings.

 

Qualifications

  • B.S. in Mechanical/Mechatronics/Electrical Engineering or related field and 5+ experience with strong functional/product knowledge, and ability to train others (Preferred experience in Automotive and/or Electronics industries, including project experience)
  • Self-starter with strong problem solving and analytical skills
  • Excellent project planning and organizational abilities
  • Able to work independently and manage multiple responsibilities
  • Superior interpersonal and communication skills to mediate among different projects on critical decisions
  • Strong drive for teamwork with a customer-oriented mindset
