Program Buyer

Position Summary: The Purchasing Program Buyer is responsible for material cost management, according to the BU and Product Line strategy, for leading purchasing related projects within a global matrix organization and the coordination in line with the Plants and the Commodity Management. The Program Buyer is also responsible for purchasing activities related to the acquisition process of sourcing projects throughout initial program gateways and launching process management, ultimately serving as the technical lead and advanced professional for Plant purchasing initiatives in order to support and fulfill the requirements of internal and external customers for the CC BU. This position will also serve as the back-up to the Purchasing Manager to support global projects led out of other regions.

 

Position Responsibilities:
•    Provide guidance to Commodity Buyers and execute highly complex purchasing initiatives related to new program sourcing in the acquisitions phase. 
•    Evaluate purchasing operations, maintain and track personal costs/budget, enforce company policy, and resolve issues with day-to-day operations and/or customers as required.
•    Manage Sourcing Decision Process pipeline (SWAT) for new projects and coordination of handover process with the Commodity Organization for awarded projects.
•    Responsible for Launch Management Process, Timing tracking and Supplier Readiness including Prototypes for awarded business (components).
•    Serve as a primary liaison for purchasing department between sales, program management, quality, engineering, prototype lab, and logistics groups to resolve issues as needed; manage escalations within purchasing department and serve as back-up for Purchasing Manager as required.
•    Coordination of Product Change Management Process (internal interface) and Supplier Change Implementation when needed.
•    Explore methods/materials for total cost management, quality system conformance, and on-time delivery performance; prepare and present subsequent reports and recommendations to Purchasing Manager.
•    Analyze quotations from suppliers to ensure technical feasibility, total cost of ownership, tooling ownership, metal market specifics, and related facets to determine the best option for total cost management and initial cost estimation for new projects; ensure appropriate distribution of RFQs to supply base by Commodity.
•    Manage prototypes supply base, directed buy components and intercompany components.
•    Develop cost savings methods and opportunities to promote overall BU productivity and supplier competitiveness (through VA/VE methods).
•    Analyze North American supply base to recommend suppliers to be added/removed from the approved supplier list as well as nominate suppliers for the Strategic Supplier List.
•    Serve as a technical liaison to global projects led out of other regions; provide guidance/support as necessary.
•    Participate in continuous improvement programs in order to promote team efforts
•    Understand and ensure compliance with all IATF 16949:2016, ISO 9001:2000, QS9000, and VDA requirements
•    Perform other duties as assigned.


Essential Skills and Experience:
•    Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Engineering, Supply Chain Management, Economics or related field
•    3-6+ years of progressive experience in a professional purchasing capacity (i.e. technical/commodity purchasing, purchasing project management, etc.)
•    Experience with APQP and PPAP
•    Project Management tools, methods and knowledge
•    Deep knowledge of purchasing tools, negotiation methods, and business communications
•    Working knowledge of assigned commodities, materials, processes
•    Working Knowledge of cost improvement/containment topics and VAVE techniques
•    Working knowledge in blueprint reading, statistics and Product Costing.
•    Proficient with Microsoft Office (e.g. Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Project etc.)
•    Superior technical abilities in business composition and mathematics
•    Superior analytical abilities with a high attention to detail
•    Proven ability to work independently in a fast paced, high-volume environment
•    Proven ability to interface with cross-functional teams and all levels of personnel and management
•    Solid organizational and time/project management skills
•    Experience with SAP
•    Ability/willingness to travel both domestically and internationally


Preferred Skills and experience:
•    Master’s Degree in Business, Engineering, Supply Chain Management, Economics or related field
•    C.P.P. (Certified Purchasing Professional) Certification
•    Experience managing/directing others in addition to delegating/tracking independent work assignments and training programs
•    Experience in high-level/complex business and/or purchasing negotiations
•    Experience auditing quality systems or TS requirements
•    Experience in the Automotive industry
•    German and/or Spanish language skills
