ZF North America Inc. has openings for the position of Engineer II - Mechatronics based out of its location in Northville, MI.

Job Duties:  Responsible to design, engineer, & develop ZF Chassis mechatronic products; Ensure designs can be manufactured & meet all specifications; Participate in all stages of product design, development & documentation (concept to manufacture) for mechatronic products; Support mechatronic design & development activities with customer & internal departments; Maintain product designs and support production; Coordinate/execute/schedule/control products, and design/develop/evaluate components and materials, to ensure design, manufacturability, cost targets and design targets are met; Develop design alternatives & recommendations for problem resolution; Participate in engineering strategy of product designs & applications; Assist preparation of engineering cost analysis; Assist preparation of information packages, drawings, prototypes and product samples; Provide technical assistance to support sales/marketing; Use/recommend analytical studies of motion, stress, forces and tolerance stack-up to assure product function and reliability; Support development of 2D/3D designs & package checks; Participate in prototype assembly; Investigate new technologies, obtain latest technical information from suppliers; Participate in benchmarking; Participate in qualifying/approving suppliers; and Participate in professional development activities. Position will require approximately 1-2 trips per year to Germany for meetings/trainings.

Requirements:  Bachelor’s degree in Automotive Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, or closely related field, plus 3 years of mechatronics engineering experience, and demonstrated experience with: Project management; Operation of multi-axis durability test stand; Programming for operation of a multi-axis durability test stand; Operation of 4 axis fatigue test stands, drive file modification, or corner module test stands; Design, analysis, and interpretation of chassis system & sub-system tests; CAN communications with automotive products; Steering systems, chassis systems and automotive chassis components; Directing others in the setup, performance, and evaluation of tests; and Re-working, repairs, and improvement of test equipment.
