Lead Mechatronics Engineer - Inverters

Position Summary: The Mechatronics Engineering Lead is responsible for leading the mechatronics engineering team to meet departmental goals of mechatronics designing, developing and completing the successful implementation of new and existing Inverters to ensure the on-time development of reliable products that are able to be manufactured, cost effective, meet customer specifications and maintain company standards.


Responsibilities

  • Lead and direct in profession engineering team to ensure the completion of design, development and modifications of new or existing Power Inverters to meet customer and company standards; responsible for maintaining the design integrity on one or more existing product designs.
  • Evaluate mechatronics engineering operations, review work of personnel, maintain budget and records, enforce company rules, provide input on team performance, make strong recommendation to hire or fire, initiate and/or recommend Changes-In-Status and eliminate ordinary operating difficulties.
  • Assist in preparing engineering cost analysis for customer inquiry and company product development. 
  • Develop product completion schedule and costs including manufacturing, components, tooling packaging and shipping; provide input/recommendation on priorities of assigned work and obtain manager’s approval.
  • Assign and lead projects to engineering personnel to ensure the cost effectiveness of designs; Direct actions necessary to develop alternatives to problems and/or schedule delays.
  • Lead customer application analysis; troubleshoot customer issues and ensure that all activities are completed in order to achieve a final root cause resolution with the customer.
  • Responsible for mechatronics design and ultimate customer accepted product.
  • Prepare and present information packages to demonstrate technical competence and capability to customers, suppliers and internal functions; identify and resolve customer design/product ambiguity.
  • Complete all projects within departmental operative procedures company policies and professional standards.  
  • Provide pertinent documents for maintenance of project historical records; document ideas for purposes of patent protection and provide product information for patent documentation purposes.
  • Perform high-level analytical studies such as simulation, loads and FMEA to assure product function and reliability.
  • Lead the make of drawings or mock-ups to explain concepts or mechanisms; Lead the preparation of engineering change notices per procedure.  
  • Initiate and monitor the assembly of prototypes, resolve design problems and document changes.
  • Coordinate and manage MRO and capital expenses for appropriate cost centers.
  • Investigate new technologies such as the application of plastics, soldering, sintering and consult with suppliers to obtain the latest technological information.
  • Compare ZF Electronic Systems products to competitor products value and appraise the comparative value from the customers' perspective of feature and design.


Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s in Mechanical/Mechatronics Engineering or related field
  • 8+ years of project engineering and Inverter design/application
  • Experience with configuration and revision management in an automotive environment
  • Knowledge of SAP
  • Experience in IBM Rational DOORS environment
  • Experience with OrCAD and/or Mentor Graphics
  • Expert-level problem solving and analytical skills
  • Ability to influence and engage at multiple levels within internal and external organizations
  • Excellent project and planning abilities
  • Strong drive for teamwork with a customer-oriented approach to projects
