Manufacturing Engineering Manager

We are looking for a new colleague to join our Engineering Department at our plant in Newton, NC!

 

Position Summary:  Manage all engineering activities that ensure product quality and process efficiency meet customer requirements and company goals.

 

Position Duties: 

  • Actively participate as a strategic member of the ZF Newton Plant Management team through the SOP process to ensure continuous improvement in facets of the business.
  • Lead and coordinate all manufacturing engineering activities with regards to new program launch(es), process planning, process improvement, and problem solving.
  • Plan, select, design, and develop manufacturing methods and processes for machining, assembly, and plastic injection molding with a focus on product/process Failure Prevention using the APQP tools.  
  • Manage the specification, justification, purchase, runoff, and installation of new or existing equipment/process.
  • Manage the launch of new product or change of existing product/process within assigned area.
  • Actively solicit, coordinate, and implement process best practices within C-Division with shared input from the CoC (Center of Competence) and other CCT plants.  
  • Establish and maintain strategic relationships with internal and external customers and suppliers to meet common goals.
  • Manage department performance by reviewing Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and implementing other metrics where applicable. Measure ongoing performance.
  • Direct/Supervise the activities of all engineers and engineering support functions.
  • Identify organizational skill requirements, assess gaps in key skill areas, implement strategy to close the gaps and strengthen the organization and provide adequate succession planning.
  • Plan, select, design, and develop manufacturing methods and processes using ZFPS lean manufacturing techniques.
  • Ensure the management of engineering changes for customer requests, process improvements and corrective actions.
  • Lead introduction of new products or modification of products within assigned area by using APQP and PPAP tools from development through the launch.
  • Develop professional presentations to all internal or external customers, stakeholders, and suppliers for purposes of justification of activities and giving updates (progress reports).
  • Support manufacturing with troubleshooting and problem-solving analysis.
  • Give input on manufacturing feasibility, costs, and timing to appropriate department(s) (Quotes, ECRs, etc.)

 

Essential Skills and Experience:

  • Four (4) year technical degree.
  • 8+ years of Manufacturing Engineering experience.
  • Proven knowledge and ability in methods of communication, motivation, negotiation, and conflict management skills with a high level of initiative/drive.
  • Proven ability to work independently and lead engineering staff, professionals, and management with decisiveness and diplomacy.
  • Supervisory experience with 5 or more people.
  • Project management experience handling $1M+ projects (Risk assessment, feasibility study, cost tracking, Microsoft project timelines, Product and Process Validation, OIL, etc.).
  • Prior experience in assembly/manufacturing environment, plant layout, cost analysis, budgeting, blueprint reading, SPC, Pneumatics and hydraulics, some PLC.
  • APQP, IATF16949 Experience
  • Good time management and prioritizing skills

 

Preferred Skills and Experience:

  • Knowledge of machining process, CNC programming, cutting tools selection, assembly, and robotic process.
  • GD&T knowledge.
  • Welding process, either Arc Welding (TIG/MIG) or Resistance Welding.
  • Vision systems programming and trouble shooting.
  • Load cell set up and trouble shooting.
  • Lean Manufacturing knowledge (6 sigma, 5S, TPM, SMED, Pull system, etc.).
