Senior Engineer- Controls

Position Summary:  

Work closely with all functional groups to develop and implement robust, capable and cost-effective manufacturing and assembly processes and its related documentation for use throughout the manufacturing facility. Promote and usage of company standardization and continuous improvements techniques (ZFPS). 

 

Position Duties: 

  • Maintain and improve existing processes and equipment.
  • Actively looks and implements continuous improvement activities to existing production equipment.
  • Provide trouble shooting support to existing processes and equipment.
  • Supports preparation of skill sets and training programs for technical groups (i.e., maintenance technicians).
  • Proficient at PLC programming and troubleshooting.
  • Capable to select and integrate vision systems, robotic systems, and other automation devices to existing production equipment.
  • Supports process cost estimates and capital investment requirements to support financial decisions required to evaluate new business opportunities.
  • Supports product manufacturability analysis to ensure an efficient, robust, capable, and cost-effective manufacturing method which meets customer requirements and ZFPS.
  • Visit machine suppliers to discuss equipment specification and monitor status versus plan to ensure meeting customer target dates, be present during pre and final acceptance. Responsible for the implementation of the equipment on the floor from delivery to hand off to production.
  • Assume complete process ownership of assigned new project, manufacturing or assembly area and provide appropriate level of floor support.
  • Responsible to maintain updated back up for robotic systems, CNC equipment, PLC, vision system, etc.
  • Monitor manufacturing cost during series production to ensure it adheres to plan.
  • Support SFM (Shop Floor Management).
  • Maintain technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, formal training, reviewing professional publications, establishing, and expanding professional networks, and participating in professional societies.
  • Other duties as assigned by your immediate supervisor or department manager.
  • Understand and comply with ZFPS, TS16949, OHSAS 18001, ISO 14001, and OSHA requirements and all state and local applicable laws.
  • Actively participate in Safety Activities and Investigations.
  • Actively participate in meetings and training courses.
  • Use PPE as required in specific work areas.
  • Ability to communicate with associates, supervisors, technicians, and managers.
  • Complete required documentation and forms.
  • May be required to work modified schedule to support customer requirements (ie: overtime, vacation coverage, off-shifts, 8 and/or 12-hour schedules, holidays, etc.
  • Perform other duties as related to this specific position.
  • Comply with all Corporate, Regional, and local HR policies/guidelines, Group Directives and Group Procedures that are applicable to your position. 
  • Adhere to Suspect Material and Containment Procedure (W150-04).  

 

Essential Skills and Experience:

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Proficient computer skills with Microsoft and CAD software.
  • Capable of making sound decisions in a timely manner.
  • Excellent communications capabilities with both verbal and written means.
  • Good time management and prioritizing skills.

 

Preferred Skills and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in related field plus 3-year minimum experience in related field or equivalent.
  • Knowledge of machining process, CNC programming, cutting tools selection, assembly, and robotic process.
  • 3-year minimum experience of Core Tools application (PFMEA, APQP, PPAP, SPC).
  • GD&T knowledge.
  • Welding process, either Arc Welding (TIG/MIG) or Resistance Welding desirable Laser Welding).
  • Vision systems integration, programming and trouble shooting.
  • Load cell set up and trouble shooting.
  • Lean Manufacturing knowledge (6 sigma, 5S, TPM, SMED, Pull system, etc.).

Work Environment:  While performing the duties of the job, the associate is exposed to normal office atmosphere as well as the manufacturing floor.
