Position Summary: The Senior Buyer – Machines and Equipment Commodity is responsible for serving as the sourcing expert for all purchasing sourcing activities related to capital equipment commodity. This position can serve as the purchasing lead for capital equipment commodity either regionally or globally; additional responsibility could be assigned to be commodity lead for particular reporting units or business units.
Position Responsibilities:
- Manage purchasing price for capital equipment commodity and/or a defined set of suppliers within machines and equipment; review sources and bundling opportunities for cost-saving methods and opportunities; achieve the target cost savings established by the business unit for the commodity while adhering to established sourcing process.
- Enter and monitor all CIS EBIT and NON-EBIT cost savings entries for the responsible commodity in the respective region.
- Research/propose potential local & global capital equipment suppliers to stakeholders based on their price, quality, location, service, support, availability, reliability, reaction time, capabilities, reputation, & history
- Provides commercial support to Program Management & Advanced Manufacturing Engineering on new program introduction
- Participate in the development of contracts with strategic suppliers including terms/conditions, NDAs, compliance, and expectations
- Work with the Operational Purchasing organization and individual plants when necessary to achieve recommended bundling opportunities
- Preparation and support to Commodity Management for contract and sourcing negotiations for globally managed suppliers; lead on negotiations for regionally defined suppliers.
- Analyze assigned market to prepare and recommend suppliers to be added/removed from the approved supplier list as well as nominate suppliers for the Strategic Supplier List.
- Lead Global Competitive Sourcing benchmark activities
- Perform market research and monitor changes/trends for purposes of benchmarking and cost controlling.
- Manage supply base in regards to quality and delivery according to the escalation model
- Perform total cost of ownership and cost per part analysis
- Understand cost breakdown including labor, material and engineering costs and prepare cost breakdown comparison
- Investigate optimal suppliers for machines and equipment in a timely manner through the effective use of industry techniques, procedures, and planning methods, while complying with ZF company policy.
- Track costs and statuses of negotiations, while maintaining agreements with suppliers.
- Explore methods/materials for total cost management and cost structure analysis.
- Participate in continuous improvement programs in order to promote team efforts.
- Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, formal training, reviewing professional publications, establishing and expanding professional networks, and participating in professional societies.
- Understand and ensure compliance with all group directives.
- Perform other duties as assigned by respective commodity management.
- Essential Skills and Experience:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Engineering, Supply Chain Management, Economics or related field
- 6+ years of advanced experience in a professional purchasing capacity (i.e. technical/commodity purchasing, purchasing project management, purchasing management, etc.)
- Experience with supplier analysis and evaluation (i.e. quality, capacity, cost, etc.)
- Experience with supplier bidding process and complex negotiations
- Experience with capital equipment sourcing (Assembly Lines, Automation, Machining Centers, Testing and Process Equipment)
- Deep knowledge of purchasing tools, negotiation methods, and business communications
- Deep knowledge of assigned commodity and related commodity market
- Deep Knowledge of cost improvement/containment topics and techniques
- Proficient with Microsoft Office (e.g. Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Project etc.)
- Superior technical abilities in business composition and mathematics
- Superior analytical abilities with a high attention to detail
- Proven ability to work independently in a fast paced, high-volume environment
- Proven ability to interface with cross-functional teams and all levels of personnel and management
- Solid organizational and time/project management skills
- Experience with SAP
- Advanced English language skills
- Ability/willingness to travel both domestically and internationally
- Preferred Skills and experience:
- Master’s Degree in Business, Engineering, Supply Chain Management, Economics or related field
- C.P.P. (Certified Purchasing Professional) Certification
- 6 years of experience with high-level/complex business and/or purchasing negotiations
- Working knowledge in blueprint reading, statistics, PPAP documentation, product costing, and specifications
- Experience in the Automotive industry
- German and/or Spanish language skills
