ZF is looking to hire a Design Engineer (e-motor) to join our team Monterrey



  • Electric Machine is responsible for detail designing of 3D CAD models and drawings, tolerance calculations and technical documentation for active parts and assemblies of an electric machine for the component design of the product range of the Electric Drives.
  • Detail design of assemblies/components of active parts of an electric machine, e.g. lamination stacks, magnets, coils, winding technologies (concentrated/distributed), circuitries, sensors etc.
  • Prepare models and drawings for individual parts and assemblies, taking into account dimensioning and tolerances according to production.
  • Ensure consideration of production and assembly technical matters, as well as of service and maintenance options.
  • Prepare tolerance calculations for components and assemblies.
  • Prepare technical documentation (e.g. product presentation, clearance & creepage, distance analysis, etc.)
  • Ensure close technical coordination with external suppliers and internal departments (e.g. suppliers of raw material and processing, electrical motor design engineers, quality and purchasing etc.).
  • Utilize and implement ZF standards into 3D modelling with PTC Creo 4, which interfaces with Intralink and SAP.
  • Provide engineering support for all stages of production build and aftermarket activities for new and current ZF E-Motor products.
  • Maintain the design integrity of one or more existing product designs.
  • Coordinate, execute, schedule, and control projects to achieve cost, manufacturability, and design requirements by creating and/or utilizing engineering tools and documentation (BOM, DVPR, FMEA, Control Plans etc.).
  • Assist as needed with Customer, Supplier and ZF Manufacturing Plant quality and/or PPAP concerns.
  • Participate in formulating the engineering strategy on estimating the cost of product design changes.
  • Assist and monitor the assembly of prototypes and resolve design problems and document changes.
  • Initiate product manuals and engineering change notices (ECN's) as needed.
  • Collaborate with the local CAD Design Team and Global Engineering Colleagues to ensure an approved detailed drawing package is provided for the final product design release.
  • Participate in qualifying and approving component Suppliers.
  • Participate in continuous improvement / VAVE programs and provide support to team efforts.
  • Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, formal training, reviewing professional publications, establishing and expanding professional networks, and participating in professional societies where applicable.
  • Comply with all IATF 16949 and ASPICE policies and procedures.
  • Investigate new technologies in the industry and consult with suppliers to obtain latest technology information.
  • Document ideas for purposes of patent protection and provide product information for patent documentation purposes.
  • Use and/or recommend analytical /simulation studies to assure product function and reliability as needed.



  • B.S. in Mechanical Engineering or related field
  • 3 – 4 years of experience (internship/co-op included) with product launch activities
  • Class-A surface experience
  • Plastic injection mold components and tooling knowledge
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office products
  • Understanding of 2D drawing requirements including GD&T methodology
  • Understanding of FEA methods and results
  • Ability to interface with cross-functional teams and all levels of personnel/management
  • Excellent project management and planning abilities
  • Able to Manage Multiple Responsibilities Concurrently
  • Strong problem solving and analytical skills
  • Strong drive for teamwork with a customer-oriented approach to projects
  • Superior interpersonal, communications and listening skills
  • English language competency – both oral and written
  • Ability/willingness to travel both domestically and internationally (up to 10%)


Preferred Skills and experience:

  • Experience in the Automotive and/or Electronics industries
  • Knowledge of different materials for electric machines, e.g. electric steel, copper, plastics, magnet materials etc.
  • Knowledge of the different material processing and respective tooling technologies for prototypes and serial production are desirable
  • Knowledge of connecting technologies for different materials (welding, interlocking, gluing, fixing technologies etc.)
  • Knowledge of plastic materials for interface assemblies, e.g. magnet assembly inside of the lamination stacks (overmoulding technologies, plastic tooling technologies, …)
  • Good knowledge of Creo 4.0, Intralink and SAP PDM system are desirable
  • Existing knowledge of ZF standards would be helpful
  • Experience with PLM Software SAP and/or Axalant
  • Understanding of FEA software/results
  • Experience as Product Engineer (Release) with FCA, Ford, GM
  • Experience in conventional and electric powertrains
  • Experience in e-motors and inverters
  • Experience in hands-on development and troubleshooting
  • Experience with Microsoft® Project
  • Experience with requirements management using DOORS
  • Knowledge of Clear Case/Clear Quest, MKS, GIT or PTC Integrity
  • Proof of IATF 16949 and Automotive Spice awareness training
  • German and/or Spanish language skills
