Supplier Development Engineer I

Seeking a Supplier Development Engineer that supports & manages supplier development activities, by supporting & leading supplier audits (VDA 6.3 / IATF 16949), analyzing supplier performance and improvement plans. This position supports & manages Supplier Quality by launching new programs (APQP/PPAP) and ensuring parts meet quality requirements, in addition to leading resolution(s) of problems in suppliers' launch and serial performance. By analyzing supplier quality performance, supports purchasing and cost reduction programs (VA/VE).  Perform SQA tasks (supplier 8D, FMEA, performance of test methods, MRB, supplier cost recovery, etc.).

 

Responsibilities:

  • Supplier sourcing assessments, new supplier audits & development plans, launch readiness audits and process audits at suppliers.
  • Consistent execution & improvement of supplier development processes.
  • Direct, monitor and review supplier APQP activities (control plans, PFMEA, process flow, SPC, run at rate, PPAP, etc.). 
  • Lead supplier APQP kick-off meetings, supplier technical reviews. 
  • Ensuring supplier quality management system meets ZF requirements.  Monitor and continuously improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the supplier quality management system.  Maintaining a set of management system documents, compliant with the ZF, customer and legal requirements.
  • Initiating quality motivation and quality improvement programs to ensure supplier quality management system is communicated and understood on all levels, including appropriate training to support acceptance.
  • Participate, as needed, on ZF teams and effectively interact with other ZF technical departments and Assembly Plant personnel. 
  • Cooperation at internal audits and support of external audits.

 

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree required (Engineering preferred).
  • 1+ years related experience, broad knowledge of supplier quality principles.  
  • Experience with AIAG standards is preferred.
  • Knowledge and application of Value Engineering, Lean and Six Sigma is preferred.
  • Experience working globally and in a team environment.
  • Experience in internal and external auditing preferred.
  • Regional and international travel required
  • Must be highly motivated, able to multi-task, set priorities and goal oriented.
  • Experience with mechanical tubes, raw steel, metal forming, heat treatment and welding processes is preferred.
  • Experience with pyrochemical and/or pyrotechnics is preferred.
