Advanced level engineer responsible for inflator application engineering support for assigned customer programs and inflator technologies.  Responsibilities in this area include:  establishing detailed program timing, preparation and execution of engineering development plans, preparation and presentation of technical data to internal and external customers and liaison with manufacturing operations to support new product launches and issue resolution activities. 

 

Reviews product designs for compliance with engineering principles, company standards, and customer contract requirements and related specifications.  Leads activities concerned with technical developments, customer interaction, and resolving engineering design and test problems.  Leverages background and understanding of engineering, customer, product, and manufacturing processes to make impactful decisions.  Supports design, validation and release of airbag inflator assemblies in accordance with the Global Development Process and Product Introduction Management System (GDPIM).

 

Knowledge of inflator ballistic performance and tuning to meet system-level occupant restraint requirements, release of engineering drawings, specifications and related documentation including test plans and reports.

 

Responsible for planning and administering prototype builds to assure on-time delivery to customers. 

 

Innovative product design idea generation and management of engineering development projects including design efficiency improvements and value analysis/value engineering (VA/VE) of inflators and components.  Use of engineering tools such as fault tree analysis, FMEA, statistical analysis, root cause analysis and margin testing.  Application of Six Sigma tools in support of engineering efficiency and production process improvement projects.

 

Will be an active participate within global Inflator Engineering project team.  Must have excellent oral and written communication, technical report writing and project management skills. Conversational German language a plus.

 

BS Engineering (Mechanical or Aerospace preferred)

Requires a minimum of 0-2  years of related experience

 

Must have strong mechanical aptitude and understanding of physics and engineering principles. Knowledgeable of basic statistics and statistical analysis.  Computer skills, including Minitab, MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint; CAD software experience a plus.  Self-motivated orientation but able to work effectively in a multi-cultural, global team environment.  Must have good interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills.
