Lead HSE Specialist/Engineer-Environmental

We are looking for a new colleague to join our Maintenance Department at our plant in Marysville, MI!

 

Position Summary: Leads plant Environmental program. Provides technical and regulatory expertise to proactively address environmental issues and assure ongoing compliance with applicable laws and regulations. Maintains measurement of environmental metrics and communication of progress to management.  Creates and implements policy and procedure according to the Department of Environmental Quality regulatory requirements for the plant.  Conducts audits and maintains recordkeeping to ensure compliance with all environmental certifications.

 

Position Responsibilities: 

  • Lead the implementation of environmental policies and practices
  • Knowledge of EGLE – Environment, Great Lakes and Energy regulations that pertain to the plant requirements. Yearly review to stay abreast of updates and changes.  (Including: SARA 312, 313 and MAERS, Air Permit)
  • Administer and implement on-going environmental compliance reporting of air, water, and solid waste, hazardous, & non-hazardous, waste streams including permits
  • Conduct facility inspections to identify environmental problem areas and modify processes that are in non-compliance
  • Act as the liaison between the facility, to federal, state, and local environmental, LEPC authorities
  • Communicate requirements of applicable environmental regulations to management and define appropriate corrective actions
  • Prepare and maintain Spill Prevention, Countermeasure, and Contingency (SPCC) Plan as required
  • Audit, analyze and report environmental performance to internal and external clients and regulatory bodies.
  • Prepare routine environmental reports, permit applications, inventories and surveys including data acquisition, documentation, record keeping, monitoring, review, and approval and submittal to regulatory agencies
  • Maintain waste manifests - includes submitting requisitions for invoices from disposal facilities and transporters  
  • Oversee the accumulation of Hazardous and Non-Hazardous waste for off-site disposal according to regulation
  • Conduct audits of facilities handling or disposing of industrial wastes; hazardous & Non-hazardous. 
  • Knowledge of and ability to implement storm water, pollution prevention plans (SWPPP)
  • Manage the development and implementation of an environmental management system, i.e., ISO 14001
  • Ability to lead, work in a team-based environment, implement policies and procedures and keep concise records
  • Oversee chemical management & full recycling – waste processing program. including documentation, audits, costs, accountability, processes. Maintain Environmental waste processes in line with ZF policies and procedures 
  • Support TS 16949 Audits
  • Ensures ISO 14001 processes and requirements are fulfilled to maintain certification
  • Perform audits of environmental aspects and impacts policies and procedures for continuous improvement and compliance

 

Essential Skills and Experience:

  • Bachelor of Science with a concentration in Chemical, Natural, or Environmental science or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum of five years solid experience including a minimum of 2 years in a plant environment
  • Strong MS Office skills
  • Strong communication skills, both oral and written
  • Must be able to perform work on multiple projects concurrently.

 

Preferred Skills and Experience:

  • HAZWOPER Incident Commander 40-hour training
  • RCRA Training
  • DOT Manifests
  • Hands on experience implementing ISO 14001 processes and requirements through to certification
  • Automotive manufacturing plant experience
