Engineer - Lean Processes

Position Summary:  Lead the implementation of a lean philosophy in the assembly department. This involves facilitating, prioritizing, and analyzing continuous improvement activities within using ZF Production System and Six Sigma methodologies. This position is also expected to lead assembly wide Green Belt projects.  Incumbent is responsible for the lean and quality processes for assembly operations department, and is required to drive continuous improvement effort and record and evaluate improvements.

 

Position Responsibilities:

  • Evaluate current assembly lines to improve engineering quality and performance using lean methodology engineering statistical analysis, and other quality tools as necessary.
  • Assist Management in facilitation of Lean manufacturing tools for the assembly area
  • Facilitate and Promote Six Sigma and SOP (Self-assessment and Optimization Process) at all levels of the organization.
  • Organize and facilitate continuous improvement teams at all levels of organization to meet business strategy goals and implementation.
  • Prioritize and Recommend project strategies to management staff to ensure proper resource allocations and ability to meet stated outcomes.
  • Develop and implement project plans to attain plant cost reduction goals (VAVE).
  • Provide statistical support to facility, when required.
  • Maintain active participation in professional societies that promote the management of projects, Six Sigma, and continuous improvement.
  • Work with Product Development (corporate), Engineering (plant) and Manufacturing to implement and maintain cross-communication to ensure lessons learned are applied to new and existing programs.
  • Assist in realization of opportunities to improve existing procedures and related tools to meet the requirements of workflow processes for all assembly departments.
  • Provide process engineering support to an assigned area of the production lines, including engineering changes and process optimization.
  • Provide assembly & manufacturing line process engineering, as required.

 

Essential Skills & Experience

  • B.S. in an Engineering discipline, or equivalent years of experience.
  • Minimum 1+ year of experience (internship/co-op included).
  • Masters in Engineering is preferred.
  • Experience with TPM and preventative maintenance. 
  • Performed cost-benefit analysis in support of targeted projects.
  • Provide status report on continuous improvement to assembly staff.
  • Implement and manage the facilitation of projects and project teams.  Provide employees with latest methods and tools to ensure project success by reaching goals in a timely manner.  Ensure consistent reporting structure.
  • Experienced in Continuous Improvement methodologies including: ZF Production System, Kaizen, Six Sigma, 5S, Pull, Flow, Standardized work, Flow mapping, etc.
  • Participate in VAVE /VSM initiative, evaluating financial benefits and managed issue closure
  • Strong organizational and task management skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, Database, CAD, etc.
  • Effective interactions with floor employees and upper management (trust, respect and influence).
  • Ability to effectively evaluate technical documents, processes and procedures.
  • Strong written and oral communications skills.
  • Green Belt Six Sigma certification preferred.
  • Demonstrated successful leadership of complex projects and Six Sigma project scope complexity.
  • Ability to effectively facilitate teams.

  • Must be able to perceive the nature of sounds at normal range; includes the ability to receive detailed information through oral communication, and to make fine discriminations in sound.
  • Environmental exposures may include dust, fumes, odors, and loud noises.

Work Environment:  While performing the duties of the job, the employee will be in an office environment with frequent exposure to a manufacturing atmosphere.
