Job Summary:
The CMM Laboratory Technician III will inspect components and assemblies using CMM equipment, existing programs and fixtures and will be certified to create new programs. They will perform open set-up inspections, read blueprints and/or technical drawings to establish a coordinate system using the CMM to inspect required dimensions. The Tech III will use GD&T and produce accurate results during all inspection processes. The Tech III will be proficient in the ZF MRY calibration system and be able to generate lists of gages due for calibration and schedule calibration events. The Tech III will lead independently and will be fully cross trained in the metallurgical and dimensional labs.

Job Duties/ Responsibilities:
- Perform technical layouts of components and assemblies utilizing existing CMM programs, fixtures, and set-ups.
- Ability to create CMM programs as needed for new projects.shafts as needed f
- Perform all open set-up manual checks using CMM equipment and simple program routines.
- Perform technical layouts utilizing height gages, micrometers, calipers, gage blocks and common hard gages in a lab environment.
- Will be required to lead independently.
- Required to have a complete understanding and ability to read and interpret blueprints and technical drawings.
- Required to be fully trained in the Metallurgical Lab.
- Must be proficient in the programming of plant CMM’s and proficient on all lab equipment.
- Utilize electronic work request system to access jobs, inspection requirements, requestor information and upload CMM reports.
- Discuss measurement results with layout requestors and explain as needed.
- Use Microsoft Excel, Word and related software utilizing spreadsheet data entry.
- Work without direct supervision performing layout requests as specified in work request system.
- Maintain 5s standards of both equipment and workstation.
- Work overtime during the week and on weekends as required.
- Cover off-shifts during vacations and other times when personnel are off roll.
- Maintain a cooperative and customer focused working attitude.
- Prioritize work according to work order system as well as Supervisor direction.
- Maintain gage calibration system, schedule calibrations, and enter data into gage calibration system.
- Utilize provided tools and inspection equipment - no personal tools will be used.
- Operate safely in a manufacturing environment and follow all safety rules.
- Wear proper attire, footwear, and all required PPE as per shop rules.
- Provide job status and other related current requirements for calibrations due, lay out and equipment status to oncoming shift CMM Technician.
- Responsible for all other duties as may be assigned.
Essential Skills and Experience:
- High School diploma required plus minimum of 2 years related quality/inspection experience.
- 1 year of CMM programming experience.
- Proficient in all supporting lab equipment and hard gauges (Knowledge of the technical use of other lab inspection equipment will also be required including optical comparator, surface tracing equipment, roundness testing equipment, torque wrench calibration equipment and all other lab inspection equipment).
- Proficient with Microsoft Excel and Word and the ability to enter data into a spreadsheet.
- Able to utilize mathematical skills to perform shop-level calculations.
- Effective communication person-to-person and through electronic means such as email
- Proficient in GD&T.
- Proficient in gage calibration system and maintenance of calibration status of all gages.
- CMM programming certifications.
Preferred Skills and Experience:
Some college preferred.

Work Environment: While performing the duties of the job, the associate is exposed to an engineering lab atmosphere with some office exposure. The engineering lab includes a machine shop, where the associate is exposed to potentially hazardous equipment and moderate to high noise levels, both requiring the use of protective equipment in order to ensure the safety of the associate.
