Job Summary: 

 

The Assembly Technician is responsible to follow the Company safety standards, Standard Work Instructions & Process Control Plans to produce a quality part while obtaining the specified Jobs Per Hour.  

Safety:


•    The technician will and ensure his team practice and adhere to all safety requirements.
•    The technician will be required to Facilitate and lead safety talks/Kaizens and collecting training sign in form
•    Responsible for communicating when there is an issue affecting the Environment, Health, Safety or Quality to his/her respective Manager
•    Determine the workplace organizational standards, and make sure that the Team is following the 5-S’s and that they promote a safe work environment.
•    Carry out daily checks to make sure the equipment and machines ae in safe working order, and ergonomically sound.
•    Take corrective action on all unsafe work conditions.
•    Communicate all team safety problems, concerns, and corrective actions to other team members, team leaders, supervisors and management of all shifts.
•    Encourage team member suggestions on improving safety within the team and keep them informed on the status of their suggestions.

Leadership:


•    Following all safety rules and regulations, plant policies and procedures without discipline
•    Maintain good attendance and professional behavior
•    Maintain a clean work area
•    Remain in department at all times except during relief periods
•    Serves as a technician for another shift when other shift team leader is absent or other reasons
•    Facilitate auditing of WPE Methods and Processes (SWI, TPM, 5S) 
•    The technician will be required to Facilitate and lead team/department meetings including start-up meetings, throughput meetings, quality meetings, at a frequency to be established based on production demand.
•    Will be expected to be actively involved in Process Optimization, and to be available to train and support new technician on the Machines and Processes within their area of responsibility
•    Coach and counsel team members on non-disciplinary issues and safety related issues
•    Assist with the orientation and training of new team leaders when needed

 Quality:


•    Know all quality standards, which, relate to the team process.
•    Make sure that the team members follow all SWIs and quality standards.
•    Develop procedures and work instructions related to laser and puddle welding 
•    Work with manufacturing team to create process control documentation for each welding operation
•    Train new technicians on existing and new process changes as necessary.
•     Make as many repairs as possible while the line is running.
•    After a problem has occurred, perform a root cause analysis to prevent future problems.
•    The team leader will have the ability to perform daily process audits as required.
•    The team leader has the responsibility to ensure that the quality control of the parts produced is according to the Work Instructions, Manufacturing and Control Plans defined for the task (e.g. SPC Checking) as required.
•    Assist with programming, tooling, and operating robot during initial production to verify accuracy of machine settings and programmed data
•    Will have the ability to utilize quality reporting systems to collect and assess quality issues
•    The team leader is responsible for mastering and working with quality in coordinating testing activities up to and including mastering automatic stations and reporting requirements.

Cost:


•    Lead continuous improvement activities to continue to eliminate waste.
•    Maximize the value-added cycle time on jobs.
•    Encourage team members to participate in cost reduction activities.
•    Assist engineers on developing laser welding techniques and procedures used in production
•    Assist engineers in process and productivity improvements that will increase efficiency through waste elimination.
•    The Technician will track, verify, and process scrap thru SAP scanning process

Delivery:


•    Management of fully automated puddle weld and laser cut production lines 
•    Benchmarks and monitors daily production processes on laser welding and puddle welding cells.
•    Facilitating and allocating coverage for Unplanned and Planned Time off 
•    Perform equipment, machine, and tooling checks and procedures for shift start-up, shutdown and when necessary.
•    Ability to understand part variants, components, and impact on laser and welding operations
•    Follow production schedule without overproducing.
•    Actively participate in problem solving meetings and methods and communicate with team members and other teams to get information needed to prevent and resolve production problems.
•    Communicate the goals and objectives to supporting functions.
•    Encourage and offer suggestions regarding potential improvements.
•    Required to participate in meetings, and other team activities.
•    Will be expected to be competent in various axle assembly technologies and be able to diagnose problems, reset faults and perform preventative maintenance activities on manual, semi-automatic, and automatic stations.
•    Perform detailed HMI (Human Machine Interface) operations
•    Perform dimensional evaluations of assemblies based on dimensional reporting. 
•    Make adjustments based upon required tolerance compared to physical part dimensions.
•    Perform press machine adjustments based on dimensional data.
•    Diagnose machine operating problems, bearing, ball screws, covers, belts , conveyors, lower raters and pallet interfaces.
•    Evaluate Loctite and grease dispensing units 
•    Maintains cable management for robots, conveyors, and machines
•    Troubleshoot mechanical sequencing issues on laser cutting, puddle welding, and vision systems.
•    Evaluate and change tooling for all part touching details (wire cutters, reamers, laser head and optics, oxygen liners, wire feeder, etc.)
•    Maintain press tooling, laser tooling, puddle weld tooling (TPM -Total Predictive Maintenance)
•    Evaluate weld and laser parameters for proper machine operation
•    Will be required to obtain nonproduction and production material within the plant to perform their duties.
•    May be required to adjust his or her start and stop time due to team leader responsibilities and required operational support 
•    Will have the ability to utilize production reporting systems to collect and assess production issues (MDA and QDM)
•    Facilitate and communicate production schedules and change overs up to and including deviations to the schedule
•    Will be required to inspect and disposition suspect parts up to and including performing rework and re-introduction of parts

Job Qualifications:


•    Must have High School diploma and 2 years of mechanical experience in manufacturing automation and/or in a technical mechanical field.
•    Mechatronics certification preferred.
•    Previous assembly line operator experience preferred. 
•    Must have an ability to understand and operate complex machines and processes
•    Able to use computer hardware and applications (camera software) to make machine adjustments
•    Must have strong manual dexterity and fine motor skills
•    Must be quality oriented and pay attention to detail.
•    Must have good interpersonal and communication skills and be able to work in a team environment.
•    Must have the ability to work any shift – Marysville is a 3-shift operation.
•    Must be available to work required daily and weekend overtime.

Physical Requirements of Position:


•    Must be able to perform repetitive tasks in a specified time while continuously standing.
•    This position is required to do frequent walking, gripping, handling, pushing & pulling throughout the production areas.
•    Must be able to lift and carry up to 25 pounds and use fine motor skills to handle parts or tools in a repetitive production environment. Use of a hoist to move large parts.
•    Work is performed in a production environment where there is dust, moving parts, robotic and laser equipment present.
