Internship: Simulation of wind turbine drive trains

Country/Region:  BE
Location:

Lommel, VLI, BE, 3920

Req ID 73216 | Lommel, Belgium, ZF Wind Power Antwerpen NV

We are looking for interns for ZF Wind Power in our locations in Antwerp and Lommel (Belgium), starting as soon as possible for the next six months.

ZF Wind Power puts wind energy in motion! The ZF Wind Power Business Unit is part of ZF group which is known as one of the world’s leading automotive suppliers. Within our unit we develop, validate and service gear units used in wind turbines producing sustainable energy and we have been doing this for more than 40 years! Today we build new drivetrain solutions to meet the requirements of the future. As wind turbines continue to grow, we are continuously pushed outside of our engineering boundaries, which makes it a challenging engineering environment to work in.

Within our Technology R&D department we can provide internships or master thesis’s in one of  the following domains:

  • Finite Element Analyses on Sub-System and/or System Level
  • Multi-body simulation (MBS) utilizing Simpack
  • Hydro dynamic simulations of journal bearings

Your tasks will include:

  • Assessing the sensitivity of models to parameter variations by carrying out numeric empiric investigations, like Design of Experiments approaches
  • Validation of models by comparing measurement results to the simulation results
  • Research on state-of-the-art simulation techniques and modelling approaches
  • Automation of calculation processes by use of Python or Matlab

Your profile:

  • Pursuing a degree in Mechanical Engineering, or similar field of study
  • Basic knowledge and/or first experience with finite element tools or multi-body simulation modelling is required
  • Programming skills (Python and/or Matlab) as well as basic knowledge of drive train and gear technology are an advantage
  • Team spirit, analytical skills, quick comprehension, solution-oriented and independent working style and strong communication skills
  • Excellent communication skills in English
