Safety System Engineer

Systems Engineer is responsible for analyzing the appropriate infrastructure to manage the entire life cycle of a complex micro-processor-based system. Their duties include evaluating and identifying inefficiencies and unmet needs, recommending improvements, and updating hardware and software requirements for integrated control modules.

 

Automotive Vehicle System Engineers have an array of responsibilities that revolve around analyzing, developing, and maintaining systems requirements to provide a safe product meeting all the customer’s expectations. They do this by examining systems, troubleshooting their issues, developing solutions to problems that arise and brainstorming possible upgrades that could be made. Here are a few of their other duties:

  • Using functional safety analyses to develop ISO 26262 compliant braking systems for our global customers
  • Examining the interfaces between the vehicle electronics and hydraulics and our system architecture for improved functionality while maintaining appropriate safety measures.
  • Work using quality control procedures (such as ASPICE) to make sure that all systems are operational and efficient
  • Developing safety control features that set and maintain the functional safety goals of our product in order to avoid the hazards associated with autonomous vehicles.
  • Interacting and working with a wide range of groups, like Electronic, Hydraulic, Sensors, Software, Project Management, and Controls/Algorithm teams.

 

Responsibilities: 

  • Evaluation of risk associated with the many hazards involved in the operation of fully autonomous or self-driving cars and trucks with a need for highly sophisticated and robust braking systems.
  • Analyze, review, and generate system and safety requirements for our Brake Control System.
  • Build the system architecture, and track the risk associated with bringing the system into production by using the System FMEA. 
  • Use specific knowledge of micro-processors and ASIC HW and SW interfaces to manage the interface definitions and requirements.
  • Conduct meetings with each component team as well as customer meetings, to communicate the system requirements and safety analysis results in accordance to ASPICE and ISO 26262.

 

 

Qualifications: 

  • Minimum of bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial engineering, Computer Science, or related fields. Master’s degree preferred. Dual degrees can offer a distinct advantage in this systems discipline.
  • Demonstrate a working knowledge of embedded control systems, systems engineering, software architecture, interface analysis, requirements management, and verification methods.
  • Working knowledge of Six Sigma, Autospice, and ISO 26262.
  • Required to travel to various global Technical Centers, must be able to work in the US, and possess a valid Driver’s License.
  • Understanding of the following tools: Requirements management tools, FMEA tools, Simulation tools, Configuration Management and Version Control tools would be highly beneficial (Rhapsody, DOORs, IQRM-Pro, Matlab Simulink, Microsoft Office, PTC Integrity are just some examples).
