Position Summary

In this role, the applicant will apply knowledge of systems engineering to the development & integration of complex electronic hardware-software systems. You will need to understand both the electronic hardware and software development process; participate in the co-design and verification of complex electronic system components; and develop the specification of complex electronic hardware-software solutions.

Specific Duties

  • ECU System Requirements Specification:
    • Develop ECU requirements including but not limited to establishing and documenting ECU architecture, electrical-mechanical interface documents, electronic hardware-software interface control documents, and perform allocation of ECU system requirements to electronic hardware, software, and mechanical components for multiple projects.
    • Develop ECU requirements for hardware and software including features such as motor control, voltage monitors, diagnostics including allocation between electronic hardware and software.
    • Specifications will be based on flow down of customer requirements, system product specifications, and sub-system requirements interfaced with system level requirements and electronic component specifications.
    • Working with customers (both internal and external) to translate customer requirements to ECU sub-system requirements
  • Requirements Engineering Management and Analysis: 
    • Identify, develop, and review requirements.
    • Develop ECU functional system levels models to analyze and develop the system level design.
    • Allocate requirements to the appropriate electronic hardware, software, and mechanical component according to System Architecture Design.
    • Establish and maintain requirement traceability between system design, electronic hardware, software components, and testing.
    • Organize the requirements structure in Requirement and Architecture Tools.
  • ECU Architecture:
    • Develop ECU architectures including functional and physical levels
    • Perform studies to assess pros & cons of different ECU architectures
    • Manage and document ECU architectures using block diagrams and state of the art tools
  • System Hardware Software Interface Specification:
  • Develop and maintain HW-SW interface specification (HSIS) for multiple projects.
  • Specifications will be based on flow diagrams, interfaced with system level requirements and HW component specifications.
  • System safety:
    • Participate in system safety analysis using FMEA and FTA methods.
    • Participate in HW metrics activities compliant to Safety standards.
  • Process development:
  • Support organizational development of sound ECU system development processes including requirements, architecture, and interface definitions.
  • Support application teams:
  • Share platform technical knowledge with application teams.

• Maintain consistency between platform content and applications.

• Coordinate with platform systems engineering regarding changes 

  • Collect, organize, and evaluate feedback to improve platform content and coverage.

• Track and maintain issue status for electronic hardware/software interactions

  • Plan, communicate and organize the elicitation of requirements from external and internal customers with regard Active Safety Systems
  • System and product definition according to ZF development methods and Industry Safety standards.
  • Management of information in systems engineering tools (model based and document based)
  • Supports the system engineering process definitions and rollout of systems engineering tools

 

QUALIFICATIONS OF SYSTEMS ENGINEER – ECU SUBSYSTEM:

 

Required:

  • Bachelors in Electrical or Computer Engineering required, MS preferred
  • Min. 5+ years of experience in electronics controllers system engineering (automotive background is a plus)
  • Experience in control of BLDC motors is preferred.
  • Experience with requirement capture and allocations, and traceability.
  • Strong knowledge of the basics of voltages, currents, and component ratings, etc.
  • Experience and familiarity with microcontrollers and electronic component technologies is essential. Familiarity in ASIC development and/or testing is a plus.
  • Experience in design and analysis for FMEA is required.
  • Use of tools such as DOORS, Excel, etc.

 

Preferred:

  • Experience in the requirements development of Electronics for Brake Control systems or similar complex ECUs.
  • Experience and familiarity with microcontrollers and electronic component technologies is essential.
  • Familiarity in ASIC development and/or testing is a plus.
  • Experience in ISO 26262 Part 5.
  • Experience and understanding of AUTOSAR for defining ECU software architecture design.
  • Knowledge of serial communication tools, such as CANalyzer is preferred.
  • Experience in troubleshooting and debugging electronics and software issues.
