Technical Project Manager

We are looking for a new colleague in the Engineering, Product Innovation department at our location in Lafayette, Indiana

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:  

  • Project Initiation: Establish R&D project setup/framework acc. agreed project scope and in alignment with R&D domains and business/PjM:
  • Define time plan for milestones and work packages.
  • Define project content/scope & deliverables, drive customer alignment if required
  • Build budget & demand plan and provide BC input (Hrs, OOS/PS, CAPEX, Travel), establish and document assumptions in case of scope unclarity
  • Drive R&D team set up and align resource supply with related stakeholders/team leaders
  • Lead project execution and manage acc. defined framework and Quality, Cost, Delivery (QCD) commitments
  • Drive project plan execution according to Product Engineering Process (PEP) & QCD targets
  • Drive project & product (technical) related decisions and ensure timely decision-making process
  • Manage technical budget (manpower supply, expenses) and project framework adherence
  • Foster collaborative and constructive team atmosphere together with execution culture
  • Anticipate, identify and manage project risks & roadblocks and drive mitigation
  • Drive decisions timely & manage customer/internal escalations to mitigate deviations to QCD
  • Ensure clear baseline/reference framework and ensure continuous change management
  • Manage & govern solution finding for technical issues (holding domains accountable)
  • Manage expectations and needs of internal & external stakeholders
  • Manage customer engineering needs to maximize the value creation for ZF
  • Manage project routines and internal communication within the project
  • Manage technical project communication to the management (reporting) and other external stakeholders/customers.
  • Lead a team of Product Engineers to design and develop column steering mechanical components for new customer applications, cost reductions, warranty improvements, and manufacturing improvements.
  • Serve as Technical lead for column steering mechanical components ensuring that designs align with Portfolio Management and technology roadmaps while meeting customer, industry, and ZF requirements.
  • Oversee design reviews, approve validation plans, assess results, and recommend actions as appropriate—lead problem-solving activities in critical business areas.
  • Ensure proper use of sound engineering practices and adherence to ZF Design and Development processes, including GDPEP deliverables, C40 design processes, IATF requirements, and budget targets.
  • Establish goals and objectives for Product Engineers and provide timely feedback on performance.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

 

  • Degree in Engineering
  • Min.8 years of experience in Engineering or Project Management in automotive industry
  • Successfully managed smaller technical projects (is an asset)
  • Experience in team management and budget management
  • Experience in working in a matrix environment
  • Good knowledge in Requirements Management
  • Advanced knowledge in Risk and Change Management
  • Good knowledge in Design to Cost, DFMA
