About the Team

This position will work as a member of ZF’s Commercial Vehicle Solutions Laboratory in Lafayette, IN to support component and vehicle level testing.  Specific products include Commercial Vehicle steering components (electric and hydraulic) gears, pumps and columns.  The primary objective of this role is to work closely with the development engineers and lab technicians to support data acquisition instrumentation systems and testing requirements.  The successful candidate for this position must have a broad background in automotive testing, proficiency in data acquisition software, software development, programmable logic controllers (PLCs) and data acquisition instrumentation systems.

• Set up and configure data acquisition instrumentation for component and vehicle-level validation testing
• Operate data acquisition systems and computers to control, monitor, and document lab tests
• Instrument commercial vehicles for on-vehicle testing and system performance evaluations
• Collect, analyze, document, and report test data to support development and quality activities
• Troubleshoot electronic control systems, sensors, and data acquisition hardware/software
• Collaborate closely with development engineers and lab technicians to meet testing objectives
• Support multiple test types including validation, quality audits, warranty, and line-return analysis
• Maintain safe, organized lab operations using 5S methodology and meet project timelines

Your Profile as Sr Test Technician:

• Associate's degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering with a minimum of 2 years experience in an automotive or commercial vehicle lab environment
• Hands-on experience with electronic test equipment (DVMs, oscilloscopes, signal generators, sound level meters)
• Ability to set up and troubleshoot DAQ systems measuring pressure, flow, torque, force, vibration, and acceleration
• Proficiency in LabVIEW and/or C# for test automation, data acquisition, or software development
• Strong electronic bench skills including soldering, cable fabrication, and hardware troubleshooting
• Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and mechanical drawings
• Experience troubleshooting control systems, PLCs, and DAQ hardware/software
• Strong computer skills (MS Excel, Word, PowerPoint) and ability to work effectively in a team-based lab environment
