Lab Prototype Engineer

We are looking for a new colleague in the Engineering department at our location in Lafayette, Indiana

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Prototype department facility design, process development and improvement
    • Manage overall prototype plan, meeting stablished KPIs: on time delivery, quality, cost, and continuous improvement.
    • Establish best practice in facility and process toward the creation of optimized Prototype Production Department
    • Specify and procure necessary elements for necessary inventory control and production automation

 

  • Inventory tracking of all prototype components, to include mastery of:
    • Prototype part lead time and order status
    • Maintaining appropriate levels of inventory based on forecasted volumes.
    • BOM management for all top-level assembly part numbers
    • PO writing and issuing per either specific requirements or a desired on-hand quantity.

 

  • Prototype Quality Assurance to:
    • Ensure prototype samples meet engineering requirements
    • Verify design accuracy and feasibility with engineering group
    • Ensure the build list matches the build request
    • Establish, track and publish prototype production metrics​​​
  • Prototype production scheduling
    • Gather customer needs for prototype sample builds
    • Prioritize builds based on input from T&V and business commitments
    • Track ship dates and other performance metrics
    • Interface with lab leadership and battle planning meetings when appropriate
    • Shipping out and logistics to end customer
    • Receive and expedite prototype change orders
    • Develop Prototype Outlook plan, proactively seek for roadblocks in advance to define counter measures when possible
    • Support 8D when needed to identify and implement solid actions and avoid issues reoccurrence

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in Engineering or Business.
  • Minimum of 3-5 years experience in Engineering, Program Management or Supply Chain Management role.
  •     Automotive Industry experience is preferred (passenger car, commercial vehicle and/or off highway)
  • Capable of creating and updating sales orders within SAP.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Microsoft Project, Power BI).
  • Ability to collect, maintain, and analyze data.
  • Strong time-management skills.
  • Ability to perform mathematical calculations.
  • Familiarity with measurement inspection gauges
  • Ability to pass pre-employment screenings.
  • Excellent communication skills
