The System Application Engineer is responsible for representing internal engineering and business departments while supporting on-site customer product development initiatives, ensuring the seamless and timely integration of ZF products into customer engineering projects, and serving as a customer liaison for all engineering applications during product development.

 

 Responsibilities:

  • Review customer requirements and creae scope of supply as well as quote technical specifications for exceptions/special considerations
  • Create/Review performance calculations to meet Customer/OE Specs.
  • Lead/Support Integration Meetings to confirm all interfaces (Hardware, Software, Controls)
  • Support Benchmarking activities in the market.
  • Oversee and support technical communication (design, testing, change-management, and project/program management) by serving as the liaison between ZF global product engineering and local customer engineering departments.
  • Support design evaluations and package studies at the customer; coordinate the distribution of information and serve as the intermediary/gatekeeper for confidential data exchange.
  • Coordinate prototype supply requirements (quantity, delivery, etc.) between ZF location and customer.
  • Support (on-site as necessary) in any issues arising during customer testing stages related to ZF product (including, but is not limited to, providing technical support for customer prototype and vehicle builds, software and vehicle tests, dynamometer and component tests, and transmission systems integration projects).
  • Perform Installation Inspections Checks and give recommendations for Approval.
  • Technical support for sales/customer visits. Serve as the technical interface to local ZF facilities: assembly, production, quality, purchasing and sales processes regarding product engineering questions as well as interface to the global engineering department.
  • Participate in continuous improvement programs and provide support to team efforts.
  • Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, formal training, reviewing professional publications, establishing and expanding professional networks, and participating in professional societies.
  • Ensure departmental compliance with all policies and procedures, including audit support.

 

 Qualifications:

  • B.S. in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
  • 5+ years of engineering experience in a product development environment.
  • Working knowledge of powertrain technology and the technical aspects of applications engineering within product design/development stages.
  • Knowledge of manufacturing processes and the business/customer interface to supplier operations.
  • Knowledge of Class 3-8 N.American OEMs, their products, and the technical requirements specific to N.America.
  • Familiarity with transmission components and the technical characteristics of Powertrains (Engine to tires). 
  • Ability to utilize PDM systems (e.g. Axalant).
  • Ability to develop and convey complex technical solutions to OEM customers.
  • Ability to interface with cross-functional teams and all levels of personnel/management.
  • Able to work independently manage multiple responsibilities (i.e. self-starter, self-motivated).
  • Ability to obtain and maintain Commericial Driver's License required; may obtain immediately after hiring. 
  • Ability/willingness to travel (25% on average).
