ZF Active Safety and Electronics US, LLC has job openings (multiple) for the position of Engineer II-Controls based out of its location in Lafayette, IN.

Job Duties:  Responsible for facilitating the development of Industrial Automation Controls in an automotive manufacturing facility; Develop high-level control strategies for all automated equipment and assembly processes, which includes designing automation controls and creating schematics. Specify and procure hardware, estimating bill of materials, and maintaining parts lists and I/O lists; Program and troubleshoot various systems, including Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC’s), Human Machine Interface (HMI’s), Robotic Teach Pendants (RTP’s), Vision Systems, Vehicle CAN bus systems and other proprietary software; Review, develop, and validate system integration for new product launches and change management processes; Interpret complex technical diagrams, including Pneumatic, Hydraulic, and Product drawings, designing low voltage electrical controls adhering to UL508A, NFPA70 standards, and Safety Performance metrics PLr and SIL; Work with specific network protocols, including Ethernet I/P, RS-232, and CAN bus, using Data Acquisition and SCADA systems, and calibrating vehicle ECUs using CAN bus protocol and CANape are also part of the role; Troubleshoot in a cross-functional team environment. This involves working closely with other teams such as engineering, quality assurance, and production to identify, diagnose, and resolve complex technical issues that span multiple systems and disciplines. Up to 5% travel to domestic and international locations to visit customer sites.


Requirements:  Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronic Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, or related field, plus 4 years of experience a as Controls Engineer or Electrical Engineer in a manufacturing industry and demonstrated experience with: Electrical and mechanical drawings for manufacturing applications; Control systems in a manufacturing environment; Designing control schematics and specifying hardware components using tools, including AutoCAD Electrical, SolidWorks, or PTC Creo; Creating low voltage electrical controls that adhere to UL508A, NFPA70 standards, and Safety Performance metrics PLr and SIL; Programming systems for automation control using Ladder Logic, Functional Block Diagram, Structured Text, and C/C++ ; Quality and safety audits and continuous improvement efforts; Operations of robotic pendant and applying vision systems in automation; Developing user-friendly HMI Programming using Rockwell Factory Talk View, RS View, and Siemens TIA Portal modules; Acquisition and SCADA systems for monitoring and controlling industrial processes; and Ethernet I/P, RS-232 and CAN bus protocol with CANape to calibrate vehicle ECUs.
