Manufacturing Engineering Intern

Position Summary: This position is an internship within the Manufacturing Engineering department with focus on identifying opportunities and implementing automation solutions throughout the ZF facility in Gray Court, South Carolina.  

The ideal candidate is highly motivated with a strong propensity to design, build, assemble, program, and troubleshoot devices. An individual pursuing electrical engineering would  be preferred due to the intended work projects.

 

Key tasks: 

  • Work as part of the project team to design, develop and execute automation projects from conceptual phase through start of production 

  • Assist project engineer with developing technical solutions for robot programming, electrical wiring, and pneumatics 

  • Interface with conveyors, robots / cobots, and other existing manufacturing equipment 

  • Develop training and operational instructions for automated solutions 

  • Design reliable safety systems and conduct required safety testing in accordance with all governing standards 

  • Report out to ZF management team on project progress and roadblocks 

  • Other manufacturing engineering projects as required

 

Essential Skills and Experience: 

  • Pursuing a degree in Engineering Technology, Mechatronics Technology, Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related programs 

  • Coursework in analog and digital circuits, control systems, logic, programming  

  • Understanding of automation systems and components such as: solenoid valves, sensors, motors, and other devices commonly used in automation projects 

  • Prior experience with PLC and scripting language(s) 

  • Ability to work under pressure while managing tight deadlines 

  • Proficient with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Access, Teams, PowerPoint, etc.)  

  • Exemplary verbal and written communication skills
