Engineer - Sustainability

Position Summary: This Sustainability Engineer is responsible to take a lead role in delivering sustainable and low-energy design projects. The role demands an understanding of engineering in relation to reuse, remanufacturing, recycling, and the effects of carbon emissions. They will also provide the documentation structure and reporting data to leadership for Energy Target Tracking and Energy Performance KPI’s.

 

Position Responsibilities:

  • Provide strategic, low-energy design advice.
  • Act as liaison to stakeholders to develop sustainability strategies.
  • Evaluate energy, air consumption, and target efficient practices.
  • Track and report KPIs.
  • Identify sustainability risks and recommend/implement appropriate mitigation measures.
  • Highlight opportunities to increase the organization’s sustainability credentials.
  • Facilitate changes to enhance equipment functionality and continuously improve/upgrade equipment.
  • Create models to illustrate plans, processes, and designs to ensure sustainability.
  • Prepare low or zero-carbon technology feasibility studies and energy statements for local authority approval as part of planning applications
  • Improve manufacturing efficiency, production yields, product quality and consistency through equipment and product design modifications and fabrication.
  • Complete projects, provide report status reports, and document lessons learns in an efficient manner.
  • Perform risk assessment tests and use results to improve design and reduce risks before reaching manufacturing.
  • Lead process improvement and waste elimination efforts by actively participating in continuous improvement events.
  • Work with other departments in obtaining samples and test data. Provide other departments with information needed to identify and implement efficiency measures.
  • Identify feasible sustainable design concepts.
  • Manage sustainability projects to achieve Carbon Neutrality.
  • Understand and comply with IAFT - 16949 and ISO 14000 requirements.
  • Other duties as it relates to this position.

 

Essential Skills and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering
  • 3 years minimum of related experience
  • Familiarity with IS0 Standards related to Energy and Energy Management
  • Experience with Building Management and Energy Management software  
  • Strong understanding of low-carbon building solutions
  • Sound knowledge of mapping, thermal and energy modelling, and life cycle assessment tools
  • Ability to participate and work within multi-disciplinary product development teams.
  • Proficient computer skills, strong MS Office (Excel) and knowledge

 

Preferred Skills and Experience:

  • Sustainability certification (EMP, CEM, EnMS)
  • CAD skills
  • Experience in manufacturing environment
