About the Position

The Controls Engineer is responsible for delivering technical analysis and expertise to optimize the maintenance and performance of shop floor PCs, PLC-related hardware, software, and applications, ensuring the reliability and availability of manufacturing equipment. This role serves as an internal consultant to the Maintenance Department, supporting all areas of production by maintaining equipment during start-ups, troubleshooting breakdowns, and driving continuous improvement initiatives related to electrical and control systems.

 

What you can look forward to as Controls Engineer:

  • Develop solutions and ensure the completion of long-term elimination of controls deficiencies; develop alternatives for controls equipment replacement, upgrade or program revisions that improve equipment performance, and overall equipment reliability. 
  • Develop, concepts for the network (e.g. Ethernet, Profibus, etc.) and automations.
  • Develop and implement programming improvements and controls systems involving PLC’s and PC’s 
  • Provide technical guidance and expertise in the modification of hardware, software, electrical and power transmission control systems to improve safety, reliability, and throughput, costs of ownership and operational readiness of manufacturing equipment. 
  • Work with customer and/or internal manufacturing engineering teams on improvements to manufacturing equipment controls. 
  • Respond to the needs and questions of shop floor users concerning their access and use of shop floor PLC applications, applications issues and training needs
  • Communicate and provides technical clarification of issues and solutions to both maintenance and non-maintenance personnel in the function, operation, troubleshooting and repair of manufacturing equipment controls.
  • Update program backup files and associated documentation to support overall maintenance operations.
  • Maintain professional technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, formal training, reviewing professional publications, establishing and expanding professional networks, and participating in professional societies. 
  • Comply with all IATF - 16949 policies procedures. Perform other duties as assigned.

 

Your Profile as Controls Engineer:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering  
  • 3-4+ years of relevant experience  
  • Proficient computer skills, strong MS Office (Excel) and knowledge 
  • Good communication skills 
  • Advanced knowledge of commonly used concepts, practices, and procedures within Engineering 
  • Working knowledge of product line(s) and engineering design principles
  • Experience with engineering change systems Advanced understanding of engineering techniques and principles English language competency – both oral and written
