Quality Engineer

Responsible for maintaining and improving the manufacturing quality system. Effectively evaluate and respond to quality issues associated with production problems and determine and eliminate root causes to diminish occurrences.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

  • Support all production activities.  Able to work overtime as the business requires.
  • Work on the production floor, interacting with Operators, Supervisors, Manufacturing Engineers and Technicians to ensure quality systems are followed properly.
  • Manage customer issues, including those that develop from vendors.
  • Champion site quality initiatives and resources.
  • Take the initiative to lead internal process and product improvement using lean manufacturing techniques (Six Sigma) for inefficiencies (e.g. SPC, Control Charts, Pareto analysis, Scrap reduction & FRY Improvements).
  • Improve automated statistical systems to help recognize potential quality issues quickly and prevent problems in the manufacturing process.
  • Take the lead during all quality concerns, internal and external; this includes scheduling and leading meetings.
  • Lead product specific regulatory compliance, as well as assembly build instruction compliance.  (PPAP, PSW, Capability analysis)
  • Conduct site and customer audits.
  • Lead the analysis and interpretation of various data trends and patterns or other indications of process and system problems.
  • Support and comply with the Quality Management System.
  • Work with manufacturing to implement quality improvements (e.g., defect analysis, data analysis lead Quality and Continuous Improvement teams)
  • Implement new quality initiative automated programs to improve the efficiency of the quality systems.

 

Education/experience requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, or similar field
  • Three to five years professional experience in an engineering role, or equivalent, with a manufacturing or assembly background preferred
  • Strong background in developing/implementing automated data collection systems.
  • Training and competency in APQP tools (PFMEA, Control Plans, SPC, PPAP, etc.)
  • Knowledge of measurement and process control techniques
  • Strong problem-solving skills
  • Proven experience in leading others with a proactive attitude
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint
  • Strong understanding of IATF Quality Standard
  • Six Sigma Greenbelt (preferred)
  • Certified Quality Engineer (CQE) (preferred).  Certified Quality Auditor (CQA) (preferred)
