Job Description

The Technical Specialist – Semiconductor Functional Safety and Cybersecurity will serve as the organization’s subject matter expert for evaluating automotive semiconductor components against functional safety and cybersecurity expectations. This role focuses on ISO 26262 component-level compliance, review of supplier safety work products, assessment of failure modes, safety mechanisms, diagnostic coverage, and hardware safety metrics, while also supporting ISO/SAE 21434 cybersecurity evaluations. The specialist will collaborate with suppliers and internal engineering teams to ensure safety and security requirements are well documented, traceable, and integrated into system-level analyses, while providing technical leadership, standards development, and mentoring across functional safety and cybersecurity activities.

 

What you can look forward to as the Technical Specialist: 

  • Serve as the subject matter expert for semiconductor functional safety and cybersecurity in automotive applications.
  • Evaluate semiconductor components for ISO 26262 compliance at the component level, including SEooC and proven-in-use devices.
  • Review supplier safety work products, including FMEDAs, Safety Manuals, failure mode analyses, and supporting technical evidence.
  • Assess safety mechanisms, diagnostic coverage, reliability assumptions, and hardware safety metrics such as SPFM, LFM, and PMHF.
  • Ensure functional safety requirements, assumptions, and mechanisms are documented, traceable, and aligned with target ASIL levels.
  • Lead cybersecurity assessments of automotive semiconductors in alignment with ISO/SAE 21434 expectations.
  • Evaluate security capabilities such as secure boot, hardware root of trust, cryptography, authentication, secure communications, memory protection, and firmware update protection.
  • Collaborate with suppliers and engineering teams while providing technical leadership, standards development, review guidance, and mentoring.

 

Your profile as Technical Specialist: 

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field.
  • 5+ years' experience with automotive electronics, semiconductor devices, and supplier engagement.
  • Strong knowledge of ISO 26262, semiconductor functional safety, hardware safety analysis, FMEA/FMEDA, and Safety Manuals.
  • Ability to evaluate failure modes, diagnostic coverage, safety mechanisms, reliability assumptions, and hardware safety metrics.
  • Understanding of analog, digital, mixed-signal, power, and communication ICs.
  • Experience analyzing semiconductor architectures and assessing the impact of hardware failures on system safety.
  • Strong technical judgment with the ability to validate supplier claims and supporting evidence.
  • Excellent communication, documentation, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Knowledge of automotive cybersecurity principles and ISO/SAE 21434 requirements is preferred.
