Technical Specialist – ADAS Mechanical Engineering

High level individual contributor within the mechanical engineering discipline; No direct reports

As the Technical Specialist for ADAS Mechanical Engineering, you will serve as a technical leader and subject matter expert for ADAS Camera and Camera ECU development.  These front/surround-view/remote cameras support many ADAS features, including Automatic Emergency Braking (AEB), Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC), and Lane Keeping Assist (LKA), along with other functions such as Traffic Sign Recognition (TSR), Park Assist, Surround View and E-Mirror.

Responsibilities:

  • Candidate will be a technical lead and subject matter expert in the field of mechanical engineering for development of automotive cameras and related ECUs
  • Responsible for design and development of core ADAS cameras and related ECUs, along with support for application/production products
  • Perform mechanical design activities for cameras and ECUs, including mechanical packaging, PCB design, and related mechanical analyses (Tolerance Analysis, Good Parts Analysis, etc)
  • Candidate will utilize Digital Twin methodologies, setting an example for fellow team members emphasizing simulation work and related correlation to physical testing
  • Candidate will utilize engineering disciplines, such as GD&T, DFMEA/DRBFM, DFM/DFA and CAD/CAE, to ensure a robust design
  • Candidate will work directly with Optics engineers to design the next generation optical sensor paths
  • Candidate must be able to evaluate CAE results (Thermal, Stress/Strain, Solder Joint Reliability, etc) in order to make technical decisions regarding design direction
  • Candidate will work directly with component suppliers, reviewing production materials and processes for improvements and technology advancements
  • Candidate must have the ability to perform customer specification gap analyses, and write new product specifications based on internal/external requirements
  • Candidate will need to have a strong understanding of a variety of product designs, materials, and process technologies (die-casting experience preferred)
  • Candidate must be proficient with root cause analysis and related problem-solving tools
  • Candidate will have close cooperation with internal and external groups including CAD, purchasing, manufacturing, suppliers, and customers to assure robust designs that meet all requirements
  • Candidate must be able to work in a team environment
  • Candidate will interact with product engineering staff to propose, evaluate, and recommend necessary design changes, or other solutions
  • Candidate will perform and coordinate laboratory testing of prototypes for component and system level characterization
  • Candidate shall be highly motivated, able to work independently, and drive designs through completion
  • Candidate will mentor and coach colleagues and support management
  • Candidate will need to be able to follow all internal engineering process including C40, the Mechanical Engineering development process within EEPM, and SPICE expectations
  • Work with cross-functional team to ensure core/application design meets all application program team requirements/expectations from a design re-use perspective, dual-sourcing validation plan, gap analysis of customer requirements, support new business quotations
     

     

Qualifications

  • 15+ years of mechanical engineering design experience, preferably with respect to ADAS camera/ECU development
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field required (Master's degree preferred)
  • Proficient with CAD design tools (Catia V5 preferred)
  • Knowledge of packaging for automotive electronics and manufacturing best practices
  • Demonstrated project management skills
  • Ability to communicate with and understand the needs of internal/external clients, with excellent technical writing and verbal skills
  • Ability to perform effectively within budgetary guidelines
  • Strong sense of urgency and personal commitment
  • Able to contribute to strong and dependable teams
  • Flexibility and responsiveness in a fast-paced automotive environment
  • Six Sigma Green belt/Black belt certification preferred
