Position Overview 

This position is a direct report to the Director Engineering Quality, Electronics & ADAS Division. This is a global position, responsible for leading engineering quality initiatives and activities for projects with OEMs worldwide across all Electronics Division product lines.

 

The purpose of this position is to ensure perfect quality of all deliverables to ZF customers as committed. This individual will not only lead the team overseeing all process and work product quality checks, but he/she will also be an approver of all work products/releases being delivered to global OEMs.

 

Position Responsibilities

  • Drive engineering quality within the Product Lines and projects
  • Ensure quality of work products within the projects
  • Coach and support problem solving methodologies including quality of problem resolution. Including reviewing and coaching 3x5 Why results.
  • Manage continuous improvement of engineering processes and quality initiatives
  • Drive continuous improvements of quality engineering metrics, tools, and reports
  • Inspire an engineering quality mindset and culture across the Division
  • Manage engineering quality relationship with OEM customers and execute action plans as necessary
  • Responsible for talent development and management of a department of Engineering Quality Engineers and Specialists.
  • Supporting RFQ phase for new projects for EQA activities
  • Ensures delivered work products meet quality metrics
  • Approves or rejects technical and gate releases
  • Approves changes from standard process (deviations from tailoring guidelines)
  • Escalates issues as necessary and drive resolution
  • Initiate process adherence checks, develops action plans and realizes compliance in all projects
  • Support QMS assessments at engineering sites as assigned
  • Support process improvement initiatives to realize cost savings targets
  • Interfacing with customers as appropriate
  • Support global process development and deployment
  • Responsible for creating department staffing plans to ensure availability of human capital necessary to accomplish departmental business results.
  • Lead and execute engineering quality improvement projects  
  • Lead engineering APQP activities
  • Continually improves processes, prevents waste, and prevents non-value-added engineering activities in the product development lifecycle
  • Drive a Quality culture shift, changing the focus from after-the-fact defect detection (Quality Control) to proven prevention (Quality Assurance), for nonconformance and other forms of engineering waste.
  • Support consultation to internal organizations, analyzing problems to seek understanding of the root cause and corrective actions.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of a company culture of personal accountability through the identification of leading and lagging indicators, as well as engineering quality and process effectiveness goals, to ensure consistent performance of the business processes within scope of responsibility. Leverage this data to evaluate process effectiveness identifying and leading opportunities for improvement.
  • Drives early cross functional engagement initiatives working closely with the Integrated Project Teams to ensure that quality is built into the design and processes, meeting requirements for mission success.
  • Communicates within and outside of the organization to influence leadership to accept new practices, approaches, and concepts.
  • Requires ability to communicate and influence leadership regarding matters of substantial importance to the function or business area. Frequently conducts briefings to senior leaders.
  • Ensures team consistently implements favorable Quality Engineering solutions which align with engineering process standards.
  • Other duties as assigned

 

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering required (Masters strongly preferred)
  • 7+ years of related Engineering Quality experience including:
    • 3+ Years’ experience related to Development Engineering Quality including well developed problems solving methodologies such as Six Sigma, Ishikawa, and 3x5 why
    • 5+ Years Electronics Development experience related to Automotive Engineering preferably in Embedded Software, Electronics, Mechatronics, or Safety (Electronics product development experience)
  • Automotive SPICE auditing experience and managing audit programs Lead auditor certification or demonstrated experience
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Experience with problem solving techniques and conducting systems, software and firmware product and process audits
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills including, but not limited to writing skills and ability to make influential presentations to peers, management, customers, and vendors as required
  • Ability to travel globally ~10%
