Sr Optical Engineer

We are seeking a new colleague to join our ADAS & Electronics team in Farmington Hills, MI!


Responsibilities

  • Work as a member of a global engineering team supporting Core/Application design development of camera based systems
  • Provide Engineering design and support of optical components
  • Provide Engineering support for the testing and characterization of camera based systems
  • Provide support to ZF manufacturing locations related to optical topics
  • Develop test setups and test methods for measuring optical component performance in controlled environments
  • Develop optical test instrumentation
  • Create/analyze optical models of components and systems
  • Create, maintain, and release component level specifications and camera system test documentation
  • Generate internal, customer, and supplier level presentations, analyses, and reports
  • Lead/support discussions with lens suppliers
  • Lead/Support customer facing discussions related to optical topics
  • Interface with software and algorithm teams to ensure optical test requirements are implemented according to the product development cycle
  • Facilitate internal reviews for engineering changes per the ZF change control management process
  • Investigate camera based systems for optical path failures
  • Support optical testing and planning over the product development cycle
  • Support vehicle integration of camera based systems as required
  • Support validation testing as required
  • Support system design reviews


Qualifications

  • BS degree in areas of Physics/Optics/engineering (Masters Degree Strongly Preferred)
  • 7+ years of optical design or automotive camera experience
  • Strong Microsoft suite skills including PowerPoint, Excel and Word
  • Ability to communicate with and understand the needs of the cross-functional team across all levels
  • Ability to read, analyze and interpret complex documents
  • Highly motivated and disciplined in time management
  • Capability to use lab tools and equipment
  • Excellent written, verbal and presentation skills
  • Demonstrated working knowledge of complex optical systems (multi-element lens systems)
  • Demonstrated working knowledge of optical design tools (ZEMAX, CodeV, etc)
  • Knowledge of engineering review methods
  • Knowledge of image sensor technologies
  • Knowledge of VIS/IR cameras
  • Demonstrated ability to breakdown large complex problems and to provide multiple resolution paths
  • Understand automotive customer requirements, project milestones, and technology relevance and capability
  • Familiar with Matlab and/or C/C++/Python programming
