Director of R&D Controlling

Position Description

 

The position will lead the financial activities for the R&D Domain within ZF’s Active Safety Division with an annual budget of ~500mEUR and a Global team of >20 members. A successful candidate will bring Controlling experience in a complex matrix organization, strong leadership and communication skills, ability to influence the business, a collaborative approach to working with business partners and proven track record of driving improvements to business performance.

 

Position Requirements:

 

  • Develops and directs financial planning, analysis, reporting, and accounting processes to ensure efficient financial operations of the Division’s R&D activities
  • Collaborate with R&D Executives on key strategic initiatives, forecast target achievement, critical measures execution and support overall management
  • Leads R&D month end financial result consolidation and analysis, monthly forecasting, annual budgeting (OP), long-term planning (SP) and divisional R&D operational and strategic financial planning, analysis, and reporting
  • Trains and mentors both direct reports and rising talents across the broader team to foster a collaborative high-performance environment within the organization
  • Drives the financial performance of the Division’s R&D by analyzing results and developing suggestions for educated investment, sourcing, cost reduction and strategic business decisions
  • Steers R&D risk management activities, develop early warning systems to effectively manage risks and implement mitigation actions
  • Provides R&D input into Div A business units. Split the six engineering domains (software, systems, infra/proto/T&V, braking, steering, admin) into Div A Product Line R&D.
  • Creates Strategies/Concepts for management reporting: Program/project management, R&D functional leads, develops budgets/policies/procedures to develop the function within the organization
  • Foster a culture of Continuous Improvement and High Performance

 

Skills:

 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting/Finance or other relevant field, Post Graduate degree and Accounting certification preferred
  • Minimum of 12 years of experience in accounting/finance. Controlling experience in a Global organization is required. Automotive industry experience is helpful but not a must
  • Proven track record of proactive implementation of R&D efficiency improvements in a fast-paced environment
  • Experienced with planning hierarchies and highly dynamic cost carrier calculations in complex financial environments
  • Leadership experience and able to work within a cross-functional matrix environment
  • A successful track record of influencing the business through a measured approach and strategic thinking
  • Able to handle diverse stakeholders with a high degree of ambiguity. Being assertive and relentless with the ability to push the organization when required
  • Fluent English is a must, German skills or fluency in another language is preferred
  • Self-motivated with a high level of initiative and problem-solving ability. This role requires a hands-on approach, the individual must be comfortable in rolling up his/her sleeves to find solutions for complex issues
  • Ability to stay flexible and handle multiple workstreams in a fast-paced environment
  • Maintain a well-organized approach to work and ability to operate under tight deadlines
  • Excellent presentation and communication skills, including an ability to develop and sell story lines to senior management
