Warranty Engineer

Field Quality Performance Engineer will be responsible for tracking, monitoring of field quality performance to control and reduce field quality related costs and claim rates.  This position will be responsible for the understanding and reporting root cause analysis, interim and permanent containment of various product warranty claim issues. This position with work with our claim investigation centers, design engineers, manufacturing plants, suppliers and customers among other groups to provide support and leadership to continually improve field quality performance objectives. This is a hands-on position and requires self-motivation.  Incumbent will develop the methods and measures of analysis based on customer and contractual obligation.   

 

This position will own the field reliability for their specified product families. 

 

Key Responsibilities 

  • Drive the Field Performance improvement for products from product lines/segments, meaning the proactive field monitoring of the products in the field (actual vs. target), the problem solving for field issues (8D, Six Sigma, Shainin, Basic Problem Solving, PDCA and sustainable fault/NFF elimination to minimize technical & economic risks) and technical support for the service providers (OEM or ZF Service network or Fleets) incl. mobile service where needed, and request support from Engineering for more complex complaints/repair cases 

  • Accountable for product field quality (Fault Frequency) contribution to non-conforming costs in the field (warranty, goodwill, campaigns) and recalls of the region. 

  • Provide support for PPAC issues regarding all regional activities. 

  • Assure communication with OEMs on operative level for field quality and customer service topics.  

  • Proactive field monitoring incl. early warning and prediction may include R/1000 trend analysis, Pareto analysis, Action/Paynter, and Weibull analysis 

  • Support the implementation of service concepts with OEMs & ZF Aftermarket if required 

  • Update Field Claims test instructions from PE, including new failure modes and dedicated test procedures; 

 

Output 

  • Field quality in R/1000  

  • NCC Warranty costs actual and % of sales 

  • Technical contact for quality issues to the customer  

Experience 

  • Degree in Engineering, technical background 

  • Automotive experience in matrix environment is an asset  

  • Minimum 3-5 years work experience in Manufacturing or Process Engineering 

Skills 

  • Knowledge of Root cause analysis tools (8D, Fault Tree Analysis, Pareto, Statistical Tools, etc) 

  • Capability to manage escalations and crisis situations 

  • Strong global networking and coordination/cooperation skills 

  • Leading and negotiating in intercultural environments 

  • Experience in resolving engineering and commercial complexity 

  • Ability to drive innovative solutions 

  • Solid knowledge in system-complexity of vehicles 

  • Manufacturing experience for products and productions processes 

  • Comprehensive understanding of quality management and tools 

  • Ability to drive sense of urgency and influence across the organization

  • Knowledge about MS Office 

  • Knowledge of PLM (Product Lifecycle Management) 

  • Knowledge of Quality tools (Automotive quality standards - SPC/MSA/FMEA) 

  • Knowledge of specific Customer requirements 

  • Production Part Approval Process (PPAP - AIAG) 

  • Production Process & Product Approval (PPA - VDA 2) 

  • Knowledge regarding the Product Safety Act 

  • Reading skills of technical drawings and documents  

  • Handling of product test-bench 

  • Knowledge about SAP 

  • Handling of specific measurement/ control equipment 

  • Guiding of investigating and problem solving 

  • Avoidance of quality costs and escalation at the customer  

  • Action plan for reduction of incoming field claims 

  • Additional material for costumer communication when needed
